| Welcome back, friends!
A big thank-you to everyone who supported KSMU during our fall pledge drive. Your support keeps this arts coverage on the air. We appreciate all that you've done to support your public radio community and if you haven't donated yet you can donate by calling 417-836-KSMU or visiting KSMU.org.
Every October there’s a good chance you can check out a certain cult classic musical. High Tide Theatrical is nearing the end of its run of “The Rocky Horror Show,” and I spoke with local drag performer Brazos Brooks, aka Betty Bombshell, about taking on the iconic role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter and life in local theater.
And a simple tree stump in Phelps Grove Park in Springfield is becoming something truly amazing. KSMU's Michele Skalicky introduces us to sculptor Louis Medlock who's bringing some new life to the old tree stump with a collection of woodland creatures.
Thanks for stopping by The Green Room with me today.

And we’re back! After a brief hiatus, Local Radar (print edition) has returned! AND EVOLVED. We’ll still be appearing here in the newsletter, perhaps a bit more intermittently, but now we'll be linking you over to our all-new Local Radar Substack! There we will be publishing some slightly longer pieces (and some short guys too), and building a back catalog of articles from the last year.
But! To kick things off, something very special - that absolutely strains the credulity of the term “slightly longer pieces.” A little over two years ago, as Springfield’s own Cailee Spaeny was getting ready to star in her very own Alien movie, I set out to write a (somewhat) detailed history of her young career and the Alien franchise at large. It was briefly published on social media and…that was it. But now, it’s here! (Well, there.) And, at barely three and a half thousand words, I think it’s very reasonable (editor’s note: average Local Radar piece 300 - 500 words).
So dive in to A “Brief” Timeline of the Alien Franchise and Springfield Missouri’s Own, Cailee Spaeny, look for older Local Radar articles to start showing up directly, and keep your eyes peeled for whatever comes next!
In space, no one can hear you read…
(cause reading is silent, and so is space)
