The Swartz Center Selects New Cohort of James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows
After a rigorous selection and interview process, the CMU Swartz Center has selected its newest cohort of twelve 2022-24 James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows. The graduate students hail from a diverse cross section of schools across Carnegie Mellon University including the Tepper School of Business, Heinz College, School of Computer Science, Robotics Systems Development (MRSD), CIT (Master of Science in Technology Ventures, MSTV) and CIT (Master of Integrated Innovation for Products and Services, MIIPS). The new Swartz Fellows, listed according to the photo, are:

The new Swartz Fellows will be officially inducted at an in-person/virtual ceremony hosted by the Swartz Center on Friday, November 18, 2022, along with the new cohort of undergraduate Innovation Scholars. The event will be attended virtually by Jim Swartz, founder of Accel Partners, who made the program possible and will welcome the new students.

The Corporate Startup Lab Hosts Its Fourth Annual CSL Forum: Technology for Innovation's Sake

The Corporate Startup Lab (CSL), a CMU Swartz Center initiative, held it's fourth annual CSL Forum: Technology for Innovation's Sake, over two days on Wednesday, November 16 and Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Simmons Auditorium in the Tepper School of Business. The forum, which was sponsored by Sopheon, was sub-divided into 'Blocks', which centered around emerging trends in Technological Innovation.
The event was led by venture capitalist and Carnegie Mellon University professor Sean Ammirati, and featured several panel discussions, interviews and presentations from speakers including Dave Mawhinney, Executive Director of the CMU Swartz Center, who interviewed Tony Muscato, President and CEO of Ignite Growth Partners; Adam Paulisick, founder and CEO of Maad Labs and Carnegie Mellon University professor; Rebecca Nugent, The Stephen E and Joyce Fienberg Professor in Statistics and Data Science and Head, Department of Statistics & Data Science at CMU and many more.

Fractional Founder Stella Han Attends the National Association of REALTORS at NARNXT
Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science alumna and Innovation Scholar Stella Han, recently presented her company, Fractional, at the National Association of REALTORS® at #NARNXT. The company is working with more REALTORS® to become Fractional Community Leaders to close larger deals more quickly, and to be the local investor expert and build their own financial wealth through co-ownership. | The CMU Swartz Center is excited to announce that registration for the 2023 McGinnis Venture Competition will open on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
The McGinnis Venture Competition is a platform exclusively for Carnegie Mellon University’s global community of student entrepreneurs, bringing together the best and brightest to compete for $60K in investments. All participants receive coaching, valuable feedback and an opportunity to raise capital. The multi-round competition begins with two virtual rounds and will culminate in a final live-round celebration on March 21, 2023. Read the requirements and guidelines here.
Students who register and start their application by December 1, 2022 will be guaranteed an assigned coach for the competition.

| CMU Graduate Students! Applications for the CSL Project Course are Open
Applications are now being accepted for the Corporate Startup Lab Project Course, a twelve-unit, semester-long course that pairs graduate student teams with corporate partners. There are at least two sections:
• The first section meets on Tuesday evenings at 6:30-9:30 PM; EST • The second section meets on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at the Tepper School, with four teams that will be dedicated to Optum.
Past sponsors have included Bosch, Optum, Philips Respironics, Giant Eagle and numo (PNC's fintech accelerator). The final cohort companies will be finalized in the coming weeks. Each of these companies will have a new product or service that they are looking to explore with a student team this Spring. There are no "classroom projects."
Interviews will be conducted with the student applicant and two instructors. Email questions to Hallie Johnson, Program Manager.

The CMU Swartz Center presents: Family Business Leadership Speaker Series
Each year, the CMU Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship invites Family Business Leaders to join us for a talk which is open to the Tepper School and the broader Pittsburgh community. Speakers include family business leaders, family enterprise thinkers, as well as advisors targeting particular pain points around succession, valuation, mediation of family conflict and other family business specific topics.
Join the CMU Swartz Center on Thursday, December 1, 2022 for its Family Business Leadership Speaker Series talk featuring Giant Eagle, Inc. Chair and CEO Laura Shapira Karet and Chairman Emeritus David Shapira. This will be an intimate conversation about the growth and success of one of Western Pennsylvania's largest family-owned businesses.
