Who is ready for Christmas? Have you seen Christmas decorations going up? I saw my first lights this week. Thanksgiving is still a week away. Advent begins on the first Sunday in December. But the lights are going up. Anticipation begins to build. What is the greatest thing that could happen to us this Christmas season?
After Malachi predicted the coming of a Messiah, Israel waited for some four hundred years. When hope seemed lost, God made his move. Gabriel came to Zechariah and later to Mary announcing the initiation of God’s plan of salvation. The angel explained John’s work before he was conceived. John was born to bring many people back to the Lord, to turn the hearts of parents to children, and disobedient to righteous, to prepare people for the Lord.
The Holy Spirit continues to work in the same way today. God wants to bring people back to himself, to heal families, to make people righteous, and to prepare us to be his people. What if we got ready for Christmas but never got ready for Christ? Jesus will return. Are you ready?
