Faculty Update
Cynthia Izac, our new 5th Grade Science/3-5th Outdoor Education Teacher, brings to St. Michael’s a long list of teaching experiences and skills from working in a Montessori program to teaching executive function and even technology. She loves teaching lower school science, is certified to teach K-12 art, and has a master's degree in Curriculum and Instructional Leadership. Add to it a love of all things nature and experience working with children in these areas, and you have a faculty member who will bring many perspectives and ideas to our school. We are excited to have her in both the fifth-grade science classroom and on the trails with our 3rd-5th graders. Welcome!
Director of Security Cyndi Chambers has made the difficult decision to leave St. Michael's effective August 27 to devote more time to her family's needs. Over the past three years, her professionalism, calm leadership, deep knowledge of safety and security, and genuine care for our students, families, and colleagues have been invaluable. She helped keep our St. Michael’s campus safe and secure while building relationships that reflected the warmth of our community. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students and community remain our highest priority. We have already begun an active search for Cyndi's successor (with interviews underway), and are working with trusted partners in law enforcement and area schools to identify strong candidates. We are committed to filling the position as quickly as possible, and we are grateful that Cyndi has offered to assist with the transition to help ensure a seamless handoff. We appreciate your continued trust and support as we move through this transition.
Elizabeth Miller, our First Grade Teaching Assistant, will be leaving St. Michael's to join the faculty at Collegiate School, where the rest of her family is already part of the school community. As her children have grown older, this decision allows her to be closer to them each day. Since joining St. Michael's in the spring of 2019, she has touched the lives of countless students with her creativity, kindness, and calm presence in the classroom and as a leader in our Morning Gym program. Elizabeth has been deeply dedicated to our students, our mission, and our school values, and we are incredibly grateful for the care and joy she has shared over the past seven years. Please join us in thanking Elizabeth for her many contributions to St. Michael's and wishing her and her family all the very best in this new chapter.
