November Focus: "Ready for a Change"
Depending on our perspective, change can feel scary and uncertain, or it can feel creative and hopeful. Given the state of the world, many of us are feeling overwhelmed. If we hope for a Great Turning to a better world, we must be willing to grieve what has passed before us and then move forward with the expectation of a richer and more connected future for those who come after us. A change is coming – let’s be ready!

Religious Education - Children and Youth

Youth Twilight Zone Hour for Grades 9-12

Attention young people of the Fellowship! Meet with us on Sunday, Nov. 27 during the 10:45 service to munch on popcorn and watch an episode of the Twilight Zone with us! After each 20-30 minute show, we’ll bulk up our code of UU ethics by having a discussion about the day’s showing through a UU lens.
We can’t wait to see you on Sunday!

Youth fUUn Night!

Young people of the Fellowship from the ages of 12 and above are invited to gather for an evening of fun, food, and friendship. We will enjoy three hours of solid fun with the young people from Rev. Jim Coakley’s congregations of Green Bay, Fond du Lac, and Stevens Point. Our goal is to be with other young people who “get” us, make new friends, strengthen “old” friendships, and just plain be together!
Featured activities for the night are…
•  Nightmare Before Christmas (Pillows and blankets for movie watching are welcome)
•  D and D/Game Room (Bring your favorite game or two!)
•  Craftapalooza! (What will you make? You are only limited by your imagination!)
For extroverts and introverts alike, there will be something fun for everyone!
What: Youth fUUn Night
When: December 3, 4:30-7:30 pm
Where: Fellowship - Religious Education wing
Why: Because everybody can use a little more fun and friendship in their lives
We can’t wait to see you there!

Religious Education Program Year Information

Sunday Religious Education programs are offered at 10:45 am September through May. Summer options are different.

Sunday Programs

Sunday School classes meet at 10:45 am only

Nursery (9:00 and 10:45 am): Ages 6 months–3 years
Children will be supervised in a safe and nurturing environment that encourages creativity and sharing.
Pre-K through First Grade: Ages 4-7
Students are introduced to the rituals and classroom structure of religious education. These include chalice lighting, joys and concerns, and UU values. Our goal is to build an environment of safety and curiosity that begins the path to individual UU and spiritual development.
2nd through 5th Grade: Ages 7-11
Students in this group will gather for the chalice lighting and sharing of joys and concerns before being introduced to a lesson based on our monthly themes. After the lesson introduction, they will continue their exploration of the topic by choosing one of two (or more) activities to participate in via breakout rooms.
Crossing Paths - Grades 6-8: Ages 11-13
This course leads students through an exploration of various contemporary religions. Each unit culminates in a visit to local houses of worship alongside of non-UU members of our community, and to experience different expressions of faith.

Robot and Refreshments with the Revs

Youth! Join our ministers for a laid-back monthly evening of food and conversation. We will use the book “Psalm for the Wild Built” (A Monk and Robot Book) by Becky Chambers, which explores themes of life, humanity, and society in a far-future setting where the world is actually pretty great. The main characters are a gender nonbinary monk whose God emphasizes comfort, and a robot who has never encountered a human. Get the book and follow along (only one chapter a month!) or we’ll provide a short explanation of the chapter before we begin chatting.
6:00 pm Wednesdays: November 30, January 25, February 22, March 22, April 26, May 24

Soup Saturday

Saturday, December 3, 5:00-6:30 pm
Join us at the Fellowship for an evening of soup, bread, friends, and conversation. We will need people to bring soup (including vegetarian and vegan), bread, maybe dessert... and to come hungry. Please direct questions to Angie or Matt (angiebaby826@yahoo.com or matthew_demers@yahoo.com). If you’d like to bring a game to share, feel free! It’s a low-key evening of fun. Hope to see y'all there!

Afternoon Book Group

All are welcome to join the Afternoon Book Group (formerly known as Thursday Book Club), which meets monthly on the third Thursday at 2:30 pm via Zoom. If you would like to join us, email Cyndi at the Fellowship (cyndi@fvuuf.org) and she can connect you to our new leader Diane Mandler.
We primarily read fiction, but occasionally read nonfiction, and try to choose easily accessible, not-too-long books. Books are selected before the program year begins each fall from suggestions made by group members. The January book is What Could Be Saved by Liese O'Halloran Schwarz. We meet from September through May (except December). We hope you'll join us!

As the Seasons Change…

As we have moved from the last warm summer and early fall days into the colder days of late fall and early winter, so too has the Fellowship’s beloved pond. Many of you have watched the progress of our pond during this time. It has gone from still waters at the beginning of the summer to open trenches of dirt and pipe, then to the lovely sight and sound of the waterfalls, and back to still waters. In this season of gratitude, let us take a moment to thank Tony Salsich who was the driving force behind the repair of our pond, as well as Doug Wheeler and David Debbink who helped with some of the digging and pipe installation. Through their efforts, all the leaks are repaired, and we lay the pond to rest for the winter in anticipation of the sound of running waterfalls in the spring. Thank you!

Help Support the 100th Anniversary of Flower Communion!

This June will mark one century since the first Unitarian Flower Communion was celebrated by Norbert Capek in Prague, Czechoslovakia. UU clergy and lay leaders are working to create meaningful resources that UU's around the world can use to support their own Flower Communion celebrations. We here at the Fellowship will likely benefit from these resources! If you want to make a donation to support their efforts, visit their Faithify Campaign, HERE. All gifts must go through Faithify, please DO NOT send donations to the Fellowship.

A Thanksgrieving Reflection
By Isabel Call
A brief excerpt--but be sure to read the whole reflection . . . “We celebrate Thanksgiving because gratitude is essential to human life. But grief is essential for healing our history of violence. It's really hard to be thankful and sorrowful at the same time. But this is life: sometimes, joy and sorrow come together.”
