GA Position Con GANAS
It is with great sadness that the L@S GANAS office is saying farewell to Priscila our mentoring coordinator. Priscilla is changing the world by pursuing her PhD and needs more time to focus on her dissertation. 
The Latin@s Gaining Access to Networks for Advancement in Science program is looking for a graduate research assistant to provide leadership for the peer mentoring initiative, Mentoring con GANAS. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about higher education administration.

Research Opportunities

Prof. Luke Hanley is looking for upperclass students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, or pre-health sciences to participate in a research project involving chemical analysis using portable mass spectrometry. Graduate Research Assistantship at the Institute for Health Research and Policy

David DuBois (Professor, Community Health Sciences) is hiring UIC graduate students to assist with a project that involves coding programmatic, methodological, and statistical information in evaluations of mentoring programs for youth. Candidates should have completed doctoral level coursework in research design as well as statistics. Substantive knowledge of community-based programs, ideally those directed toward youth, is essential. 

Positions will begin immediately and will require a commitment of at least 20 hours per week throughout the summer. Applications should be directed todldubois@uic.edu and should include a) a brief cover letter that includes a list of graduate level course work completed in research methods/statistics and grades received and b) a CV/resume.

With everything going on in our world, many people are losing trust in media, politicians and even relegious leaders. However, Pew Research Center released a survey earlier this month and according to their findings, 86% hold a fair ammount of confidence that scientist work for the public good. Now more than ever Latinx presence in STEM is needed to continue giving the people something to believe in that is still truly working for the public good.


The young inventor was recently recognized by the Nuclear Sciences Institute at Mexico's Autonomous University for her solar-powered water-heating device, which has the potential to improve lives and the environment not only in rural Mexican communities, but in countries around the world.
