Teaching Tips
This section is full of timely and evidence-based practices to apply in your teaching. We are starting the semester with tips for fostering a culture of care.
Trauma Informed Teaching. Applying a trauma informed lens to your teaching will be especially critical this semester; however, these principles can extend well beyond the presence of COVID-19. Check out this UTLC: TIO resource for the do's and don'ts of trauma informed teaching, and for more insights be sure to listen to the Teaching in Higher Ed Podcast episode 372 and read this Inside Higher Ed article that also center trauma informed education.
Student Mental Health. Faculty and staff play an instrumental role in supporting students as they navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, the pandemic of racism and the nation’s current culture wars, while also working to pursue their academic goals. UNCG has compiled a webpage of resources to help staff and faculty members identify what students may be experiencing, ways to support students, and ways to engage in self-care along the way. It takes all of us to create a Culture of Care. Tip courtesy of UNCG's Counseling Center.
COVID Classroom Tips. UNCG is dedicated to ensuring that all students have access to education and campus life, especially during COVID-19. The FAQs and general tips outlined in this document are designed to assist faculty in addressing issues that may present in the classroom. Additionally, Fall 2021 room capacities and seating charts are now available and this helpful video courtesy of ITS Learning Technologies will walk you through the steps of tracking attendance and seating arrangements via the Canvas Roll Call Attendance Tool (student view), should you choose to use it as a way to keep your seating chart.
