The NYU Department of Campus Safety recently received two reports of Motor Vehicle Thefts involving an electric scooter and an electric bike that occured today, September 25th. These incidents occurred at the Paulson Center bike racks, located at 181 Mercer Street, on the east side of the Paulson Center, in Manhattan.
The first incident occured today at around 5:07 p.m. A Campus Safety Officer reported witnessing the attempted theft of an e-scooter.
The second incident was reported today at 5:19 p.m. An NYU student reported that at 12:40 p.m. they locked their e-bike at the Paulson Center bike racks. At around 5:00 p.m. they returned and noticed that the e-bike was missing. Camera review determined that at 2:11 p.m. an unknown suspect used a bolt cutter to take the e-bike.
Description of Reported Offenders:
The Campus Safety Officer described the first suspect as follows: male-presenting, with a light complexion, around 5'9" to 5'10" in height, with a slim build. They were wearing a hard hat, clear raincoat, blue jeans and construction-worker-style boots.
Camera review of the second incident shows that the second suspect is male-presenting, with a light complexion, around 5'9" to 5'10" in height, with a slim build. They have salt-and-pepper hair and were wearing a white shirt, black jeans, and dark shoes.
At this time, it is not believed that the two suspects are the same.
