A Winter Blanket - The What, Why and How Much of MULCH!
Winter's chill is here, and just like you, your garden is ready to curl up and get cozy with its favorite blanket... mulch!  Many plants thrive with the additional warmth mulch provides in the colder months, and it's not too late to start if you haven't mulched already.  There's a lot to know about mulch, but we're here to make it easy with this week's blog!

Why mulch? Particularly in the Southern states, winter comes in waves with warm days sprinkled among frozen ones.  Alternating temperature fluctuations can cause a lot of stress in plants, and even cause roots and bulbs to pop out of the ground!  Mulch helps regulate temperature and add a layer of protection.
When should I mulch? If you're worried that you're too late to mulch, we're here to ease your mind!  Applying mulch too early can actually prevent plants from hardening off sufficiently to stand up to winter's chill.  Likewise it can trap warm air in the soil.  The best time to mulch in many parts of the U.S. is often between late November or December, once the ground has seen several hard frosts!
We're just digging the surface (pun intended!) with the top tips and tricks to mulching.  To learn more, be sure to check out this week's blog!
