To the campus community:
Yesterday a registered student organization held a ticketed event on our campus at which views were expressed that targeted members of our trans community and their allies. As a public university, we are required to allow free speech on campus.
That said, as a campus community, we are opposed to anti-transgender speech. We denounce every word, thought, and action that attempts to dehumanize or invalidate our trans community members. We stand with our LGBTIAQ+ community.
We recognize and value all persons of all gender identities and expressions and we validate their existence. We affirm and acknowledge the importance of living, surviving, and thriving as our authentic selves. We affirm the use of all pronouns: they, them, us, we, he, him, she, and her. We affirm that our transgender community belongs at Sacramento State, in the region, the nation, and the world.
Students who may have been impacted by the presence of this group on our campus should consider talking to a trusted friend, faculty member, or other supportive individuals, or visit our Pride Center, or Counseling Services in the WELL or contact them at 916-278-6461.
