Clinical Teaching Institute and Kansas Nurse Educator Conference

Make plans to attend the 2025 Clinical Teaching Institute and Kansas Nurse Educator Conference, July 16-17 sponsored by KU Medical Center’s Area Health Education Center and hosted by Newman University in Wichita, KS.
Learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI), student success, and the collective effort to build a stronger nursing workforce in Kansas. It is designed for APRNs, clinical instructors, academic faculty and health care professionals involved in nursing education.
Day one: Explore how AI can be used to enhance classroom and clinical teaching, with hands-on strategies for creating engaging assignments, test questions and interactive learning modules. Examine the ethical considerations, limitations and risks of AI in practice.
Day two: Focus on student success, including ways to recognize at-risk behaviors early, track student progress and develop effective remediation plans.

MCIRN Innovation Summit: Collaborative Action for Preceptor Practice
|
Save the date for the Midwest Clinical Instruction Regional Network’s (MCIRN) Innovation Summit: Collaborative Action for Preceptor Practice on Friday, August 1, 2025 at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park, KS.
This event will share regional and national perspectives on precepting. Specific topics include preceptor roles, interprofessional identity, teaching & coaching tools, action-oriented feedback, and communication strategies.
Preceptors, Nurse Practitioners, Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Instructors are encouraged to attend.

Research Committee Meetings: April and May
|
Watch a recording of the May Research Committee meeting presentation about the "Care Economy” and the development of the Care Board, a new tool to gather information the work Americans do every day to provide care for their families, communities and selves and the care workforce’s role in the economy. Dr. Misty Heggeness, Associate Professor of Public Affairs and Economics at the University of Kansas, Founder & Co-Director of the Kansas Population Center presented.
Next month we will learn about "Entry-level Pathways to Nursing," presented by Dr. Carrie Wendel-Hummell, Principal Investigator and Research Project Director at KU School of Social Welfare and Dr. Amy Garcia, Associate Professor and Dean for Faculty Practice and Community Engagement at KU School of Nursing, Principal Advisor at the Kansas Nursing Workforce Center.
FOLLOW UP: A recording of the April Research Committee Meeting presentation about the Access to Maternity Care in Kansas report now available. During the meeting, Karen Weis, PhD, RNC-OB, FAAN, Christine A. Hartley Rural Nursing Professor, Salina Campus Dean, University of Kansas School of Nursing, shared her findings.
The Kansas Nursing Workforce Center Research Committee meets monthly and is open to all.
Led by Shin Hye Park, PhD, RN, the Research Committee, facilitates and promotes collaborative nurse research activities across the state. The committee's goal is to leverage research talent to better serve the healthcare community of Kansas, advance the field of nursing and healthcare and strengthen the nursing workforce in Kansas.
The next scheduled meeting is June 26, 2025 from 10-11 a.m.
