PULSE AT IVC | APRIL 2025 EDITION |
|
|
April is STI Awareness Month |
This month is a great time to raise awareness and understand sexually transmitted infections (STIs). For those at risk, regular screenings and education are key—early detection helps prevent complications and stops the spread.
STIs to know include chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, HPV, among others. Safe sex practices can lower your risk. If you have questions or think testing might benefit you, contact the IVC Health and Wellness Center.
Tips:
|
-
Limit your number of sexual partners
- Test yourself and new partners before becoming sexually active
- Get evaluated for any new symptoms
- Test regularly—even without symptoms
- Learn about transmission, complications, and prevention

April is Autism Awareness Month |
This month is dedicated to promoting acceptance, understanding, and inclusion of autistic and neurodivergent individuals. Autism is a neurodevelopmental difference—autistic brains process the world differently, especially when it comes to sensory experiences, communication, movement, thought patterns, and social interaction.
While most brains may look similar, they don’t all work the same. Difference isn’t a deficit—it’s a strength that brings unique perspectives, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
|
-
Autism acceptance means making intentional choices to create inclusive, safe environments for everyone. It also requires challenging harmful stereotypes and addressing systemic barriers that have limited autistic individuals’ access to education, healthcare, employment, and essential services.
-
From advocating for inclusive policies, to supporting accommodations in schools, workplaces, and public spaces, we all play a part in creating a world that recognizes the value and dignity of autistic lives.
