“We belong to an Acts 29 church!” I asked my relatives if they had found a church in their new city. They responded, “We belong to an Acts 29 church.” There is not actually a 29th chapter of Acts. So what is an Acts 29 church? Acts 29 is a network of churches and a church-planting movement.
At the end of Acts 28, we find Paul in Rome. He had appealed to Caesar and awaited trial. He lived under house-arrest and welcomed friends. Paul’s gospel was unhindered by his detainment. He proclaimed the good news of our King Jesus to all who would listen.
The church in Acts continued to do and to teach what Jesus had done and taught. So the church has continuity with Christ. The head of the Church leads his body to share his good news with the world. In our world, the body of Christ comes in all shapes and sizes. But we have this in common. We continue to do the work which Jesus instituted 2000 years ago. Our God is still King and he rules in the lives of his people. Our news is still the best news anyone has ever spoken or heard: we are worse off than we thought and more loved than we ever dreamed.
