The McGinnis Venture Competition, a platform exclusively for Carnegie Mellon University's community of student entrepreneurs, brings together Carnegie Mellon's best and brightest student entrepreneurs to compete for $60K in investments. All participants receive crucial interaction with alumni entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, an opportunity to raise capital and valuable feedback about ventures.

This multi-round competition begins with two virtual rounds and will culminate in a virtual, final live round at Carnegie Mellon University on Tuesday, March 23, 2021.

The deadline to apply for Round 1 is Wednesday, January 20, 2021!

Fifth Season to Serve As Penguins' Official Greens Partner

The Pittsburgh Penguins are partnering with Fifth Season, a 'vertical farm' located in Braddock that will provide greens for the team during the upcoming season. Fifth Season will serve as the official greens provider for the Penguins during the 2020-21 season. Read more.

The CSL Project Course

The CSL Project Course is a 12-unit semester-long course that pairs student teams with corporate partners. It meets virtually on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 - 9:30pm EST. This year's sponsors are Bosch, Giant Eagle, Optum (part of UnitedHealthCare), Microsoft, MSA Safety and numo (PNC's fintech accelerator). Each sponsor has a new product or service they are looking to explore with a student team.

CSL Fellows

The CSL Fellows is a program within the Corporate Startup Lab that allows CMU graduate students the opportunity to spend ten hours per week working with corporate partners as almost "corporate venture associates".  This year, students will work with numo (part of PNC) and Optum. Each student will be given a $4K stipend for their work over the semester.

Techstars Space Accelerator Virtual Information Session

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, U.S. Air Force, Lockheed Martin, Arrow Electronics, SAIC, and Israel Aerospace Industries-North America (IAI) have united to bring you The Techstars Starburst Space Accelerator (pdf). The accelerator, which will run virtually, is focused on the next generation of space tech companies, businesses from adjacent industries, i.e. automotive, agriculture, energy, mining, finance and manufacturing. Apply to the accelerator by February 28, 2021.

The Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship is currently recruiting teams for its Spring 2021 NSF Innovation Corps (I-Corps) customer discovery training program. CMU faculty, staff, students and recent alumni are eligible to apply. Teams can be reimbursed up to $2,500 for eligible customer discovery expenses to assess the commercialization potential for their STEM technology. 
Pear Pitch! for CMU - February 12th @ 6pm ET

VC's from a16z, Gradient Ventures and Pear VC are holding a 'Pitch Night' event for CMU students and alumni. This is an opportunity to practice your pitch and receive live feedback from top VCs, or just register to watch the event. Pitches will be three minutes, without slides.
