Acts 8:25
25 After they had further proclaimed the word of the Lord and testified about Jesus, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.

New International Version (NIV)
It is so hard to stop fishing.  “Just one more cast,” we say as we head in for the day.  My game warden buddy calls it “next-bend fever.” We are trying to find that one last fish around the next bend. My young fishing companion and guide, Brian headed around one more bend as we were coming in from a successful day of fishing. Right there across from the dock on our last pass, he tied into an enormous bass.

Peter and John found Samaria to be a great place to fish for people. Jesus had called them away from fishing for fish so that they could fish for people. Samaria wasn’t even supposed to be a great place to call people to faith, until Philip led a revival there. The two apostles first went to Samaria to discern if what was happening was on the up and up. But when they saw all the new believers, they started fishing themselves. They even fished in many other Samaritan villages on the way home.

When did we stop fishing? There is no wrong time or place to speak a good word about the Lord. Jesus is always a good subject for conversation.  We have been scattered to the places we live and work to love our neighbors and love our God out loud. How are we doing? Let’s share the love of Jesus with people all the way home to the Lord. We never know who might believe, so we fish to the finish!

Pray with me:
Father, thank you for calling us, too, to fish for people. Help us not to grow weary of offering life to others. Give us a divine appointment with somebody today, we pray, in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
