4-H Summer Assistant- Welcome Grace |
|

Please welcome Grace Schell who will be helping with all things 4-H this summer. Grace is a Baraboo native and former Skillet Creek 4-H member. She's attending school at UW-Platteville Baraboo for Agriculture Business. This summer she will be planning Cloverbud day camps, assigning at 4-H Tri-County Camp, and helping at fair. She was recently named Sauk County Fairest of the Fair. She'll have a VERY busy fair week! We are glad to have you Grace!

Many hands make light work. Fair Clean Up Day is Saturday, June 24th from 2-5pm. Narrows Creek, Sauk Prairie Earthlings, Skillet Creek, Active Strivers and Endeavor 4-H members are expected to be there to assist. Anyone else is welcome to help out. Our focused will be getting the exhibit buildings ready for fair. Task will include, dusting, cleaning, light gardening, and light painting.
Please bring: step stools, small ladders, shop vacuums, pruning tools, drills, gloves, work tools, water for yourself
Senior Leaders will provide: paper towels, brooms, mops, buckets, cleaning projects and window cleaner.

| Cloverbud Judges Needed – grades 6th -12th preferred
Cloverbuds explains their projects to the judges while judges
- Offer praise & supporting words to each Cloverbud participant
- encourage the Cloverbud to keep growing in their projects
- Ask engaged questions to each Cloverbud participating
Judges needed Monday July 10th from 1:30-3, 3-4:30, 4:30-6pm

Each year, clubs reserve a spot in exhibit building 2 to showcase their club using the fair theme. Booths are judged by locals and ribbons are awarded.
Reminder: 4-H members should be doing the planning and set up
Theme: "Find Your Spark at the Sauk County Fair”
Set up: Monday, July 10 (Pre-Fair Judging Day) – between 1:00pm to 6:00pm
Tuesday, July 11 – between 10:00am -3:00pm
Judging occurs Tuesday afternoon. Members do not need to be present.

Are you planning on baking something for a fair exhibit? Consider baking extra for our bake sale! By request, 4-H will be hosting a bake sale during Pre-Fair judging day and other pre-fair events. If you are interested in donating, please bring your baked goods to the commercial building by 2pm on Monday June 10th. I've you'd like to arrange an drop off before Monday, please email 4H@saukcountywi.gov to work out details.

| Attention All Performance Arts Festival Performers And Those Exhibiting Clothing At The Fair:
Those who participated in the Performance Arts Festival back in April are welcome to perform on the FAME stage at the Sauk County Fair on Thursday July 13th at 6:30 PM.
Those who are exhibiting WEARABLE clothing items at the fair are welcome to participate in the 4-H Fashion Show that same evening (tie dyed shirts, dresses, etc.) If you made an outfit for a baby/toddler or for another family member to wear, you can speak about your project while they model it.

| Calling all Sauk County 4-H Clothing Project Alumni:
Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of one of our 4-H clothing project leaders Tonya Schneider. To honor her memory, if you exhibited a clothing project in the past we would like to host a memory walk where you can carry a clothing project that you made during your tenure as a 4-H member. One item per member please. The walk will take place at the beginning of the 4-H Performance Arts Festival on Thursday July 13th at 6:30 PM on the FAME stage in the commercial building at the Sauk County Fairgrounds in Baraboo. If you are interested in participating, please reach out to Sandy Miskowiak-Larsen, Performance Arts Festival Coordinator at 608-963-1408.

In addition to each club hosting a food shift, we have an open shift Thursday morning that needs to be filled from 9:30am-1pm. Thursday is a busy day at fair for our members. We'd appreciate your consideration on working part of this shift, or helping us recruit alumni, friends of 4-H or extended family.

Our exhibit buildings are in need of building hosts. Building hosts greet guest, answer basic 4-H questions, and remind visitors to keep food and open drinks outside. It's a great way to guarantee yourself time to sit by a fan!
Anyone can be a building host, adults, members, or family members. Youth younger than 12yrs of age should have a parent to assist them. You can also sign up as a family to host both buildings!

Our Junior Leader Council, with support from the Sauk Couth 4-H Senior Leaders will be hosting a digital scavenger at the Sauk County fair. Gift card prizes will be given to the top scoring individuals along with a drawing for prizes for all participants. Download the Goosechase app today to get ready!

Compeer Financial’s Fund for Rural America, the Farm Credit cooperative’s giving program, is supporting county fairs with grants to improve facilities and experiences offered to communities across the Upper Midwest. 57 fairs received County Fair Facility Upgrade Grants of up to $4,000 this year, totaling $227,750 awarded.
Sauk County Senior Leaders Association was awarded a grant to complete much needed upkeep and repair water damage to the 4-H food stand.

Wanted DONATIONS of Exhibits, Skills and Services for Fundraising Auctions
Each year, our Senior Leader group plans two countywide fundraisers. The food stand is our main fundraiser. Our 2nd fundraiser this year will be an online auction. Clubs were asked to make a basket, offer a service, or provide an item that can be auctioned. Any baskets/items ready prior to fair will be displayed at fair. Please bring them to Building 3 on Monday July 10th or the Sauk County Extension office prior to the 10th.
For the 2nd Annual Sauk County 4-H Online Auction Fundraiser
Online Auction will take place July 24-28.Items will be picked up on August 5th at the 4-H Adventure.
4-H members, clubs, projects: Donate your projects, skills and service for auction!
Examples could include Home décor, Raking Leaves/Yard work, Paintings, Photograph, Custom Cake or Cookie decorating, Pet care, Processed Meat from a fair animal (frozen), Knitting/Quilts, Clothing alteration services, Mini Photo shoot session. Be creative!
Items are Due by July 17, 2023. Bring your physical items to the Sauk Co Extension Office so the committee can take a photo for the online auction website. If donating a service or skill, contact the email address below with a description of your donation. If you decided to take your project to the fair, please drop it off in building #2 after the fair is over.

The Senior Leaders is a group of elected representatives who help shape the direct Sauk County 4-H program. The group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month. The nest meeting will be held at the Sauk County Fair Grounds, Tuesday June 27th at 6:30, in the food stand pavilion. 4-H members, Leaders and families are welcome to attend.
There are several positions opening in October.

We have an opportunity to grow Sauk County 4-H by having an AmeriCorps member join our office. This would be a great opportunity for a local college student, new graduate, or even a retire/semi retired individual. Please help us spread the word about this opportunity!

Forever celebrate the contributions of a person who has made significant contributions to the Sauk County 4-H Program. Recipients will receive recognition at 4-H Awards Celebration, a plaque and a permanent spot on the Hall of Fame Tree located in building 2 at the Sauk County Fair. Please submit nominations by June 26th.
