February 2026
The Flat Stuart campaign, brainchild of Director of Communications & Engagement, Chris Stetler, was recognized with a Silver Keystone Award by the Central PA Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America at their annual luncheon on January 8.  Congratulations, Chris, and thanks to all who sent in Flat Stuart photos!

This month's Masterworks concert features our virtuoso percussion section in a first — a concerto for four players and countless instruments by Viet Cuong. This piece is a musical and visual marvel. The program also includes Mozart's delightful 35th symphony (Haffner) and the third symphony by Louise Farrenc, a trailblazing pianist and composer of the Romantic era.

Join us February 14 & 15!

January Masterclass with William Hagen

Violinist William Hagen gave a Masterclass at Trinity Lutheran in Camp Hill during his recent concert weekend (January 10th & 11th) with the Harrisburg Symphony. The two-hour class went by in the blink of an eye, with each student receiving 30 minutes of individual instruction.  Students and observers witnessed excellent teaching and incredible demonstrations by William, and students were challenged to absorb his suggestions on the spot!

In a Masterclass, each student begins with a performance of a movement or a part of a piece they're working on.  The teacher listens and formulates the two or three most important concepts the students would benefit most from improving.  The information is shared, the teacher demonstrates, the student is led through a guided practice on the concepts, and hopefully the student leaves with a lot of information they will digest as they continue their growth.

The students not only benefit from their own individual lessons, but from watching the other students as well.

Masterclasses are one way the Harrisburg Symphony fulfills its educational mission.  The Guest Artist Workshop Series is made possible in part thanks to generous support from the Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation and donors to the HSO’s Let the Music Grow Campaign.
