Webinar Recording Available: Fighting for an Equitable Recovery After Disasters |
The increasing frequency of natural disasters has demanded greater attention and resources from community-based organizations to lead local relief and recovery efforts. National CAPACD recently held a webinar exploring how AA and NHPI-serving organizations have responded to natural and human-induced disasters in their local communities and the lessons they have learned on the long road to recovery. We were joined by Renaissance Economic Development Corporation (New York, NY), Arkansas Coalition of Marshallese (Springdale, AR), Song CDC (New Orleans, LA), and Hawaiian Community Assets (Maui, HI office). Watch the webinar recording to learn how your organization can help clients meet basic needs, set up an emergency loan fund, and work with relief and government agencies.

Here's what you need to know about National CAPACD's policy work this month:

|
Take Action to Protect the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) |
National CAPACD condemns the Administration’s proposed measures to fire half the staff at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Such a significant reduction in the workforce will make it impossible for communities across the country to access critical housing programs. These programs are vital to low-income families and other historically marginalized communities who face the greatest barriers to accessing safe and affordable housing.

National CAPACD Condemns the Administration’s Attacks on the CFPB |
National CAPACD strongly opposes the Administration’s actions to dismantle the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which halts all the work the agency does to protect consumers from predatory financial products and services. These efforts expose the public to a great deal of harm, including the low-income AA and NHPI families and other vulnerable communities that face a significant amount of financial hardship and are disproportionately targeted by unscrupulous actors.
