“Now more than ever we need to talk to each other, to listen to each other and understand how we see the world, and cinema is the best medium for doing this.” — Martin Scorsese
In this time of annual reflection, we are feeling thankful for our film community. Over the past 28 years, filmmakers, industry professionals and film fans from around the world have gathered to celebrate the art of filmmaking, explore a range of global cinema, champion emerging screenwriters, and develop new generations of cinephiles through our education programs.
As the pandemic has evolved, we have been humbled by your generous support and willingness to come along for the ride as we pivoted into the virtual realm. From Friday Flashback to Now Showing via virtual cinema, from the suddenly-online 20th Anniversary Screenwriters Lab to the Drive-in series at Hayground School, from the Air, Land + Sea partnership pop-up with Mind Offline to the entirely reimagined HIFF28, you have been right there every step of the way. We hope you enjoyed the magic of cinema, whether from the front seat of your car or the comfort of your living room.
This has been a rough year for so many, and a substantial donation to the East Hampton Food Pantry, made possible by the incredible generosity of Board Member Joe Zicherman, has been given in our name. May it bring comfort and alleviate worry for our neighbor families this holiday season.
We wish you the warmest of holiday seasons, as different as this one may be, and a healthy 2021.
Gratefully,
Anne Chaisson and the HamptonsFilm Team
