Acts 13: 23 - 25
38 “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. 39 Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses. 40 Take care that what the prophets have said does not happen to you:
41 “‘Look, you scoffers, wonder and perish,
for I am going to do something in your days that you would never believe,
    even if someone told you.’”
42 As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath. 43 When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.

New International Version (NIV)
A pastor asked a group of children if any of them knew the story of Easter. Some talked about bunnies and eggs. But one boy at the back offered a different perspective:  “On the third day after his crucifixion, Jesus came to life, rolled away the stone, and walked out of the tomb." The Pastor was elated. But the boy continued, “And if he sees his shadow, then there are six more weeks of winter.” He almost had the right story.

What difference does Jesus’ resurrection make for us? Paul and Barnabas connect the resurrection story with our forgiveness. If Jesus died and rose again, we may be set free from every sin and justified before God. Isn’t this good news? Paul offered the invitation:  believe this good news. After this lengthy sermon, the people who heard him invited him to preach the next week. Paul and Barnabas encouraged them to continue in the grace of God.

Paul Jones said, “What one sees in life depends upon where one sets up shop. I set up my shop at the entrance of an empty tomb.” So do I. How about you? What difference does the bodily resurrection make to us? As we walk through this veil of tears, in the valley of the shadow of death, the resurrection makes all the difference in the world. Our loved ones who die in the Lord will live with God in a new heaven and new earth forever. There it will always be Easter, and never be winter again. Believe the good news!

Pray with me:
Father, thank you again for the mighty power that awakened Christ and brought him victoriously out of the grave. Since we have been raised with Christ, help us to set our hearts and minds on things above. You have set eternity in our hearts. Help us to set the risen Lord always before us today. Let us live with resurrection power. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
