Is there anyone you hate or refuse to forgive?
Is there anyone you hate or refuse to forgive?

Titus 3:3-5
At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,  he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
New International Version (NIV)
Disciples grow in love, or we do not grow at all!  Have you also noticed that hate is strong in our world?  If we are not careful we will hate others who have harmed us.  Unfortunately our anger and wrath boomerang on us.  Refusing to forgive is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.
Why would we stop hating others?  Because the kindness and love of God our Savior has appeared.  He saved us by his mercy through the amazing power of the Holy Spirit.  God is love.  The more we surrender our lives to the Holy Spirit, the more we will love others.
Carefully consider:  is there anyone you hate or refuse to forgive?  In view of God’s mercy, forgive right now.  Likely, we cannot do this in our own strength.  Thankfully, more than our strength is available.  God is here.  God is near.  Forgive and do not hate.
Pray with me:
Father, we thank you for loving us when we were haters of God (Romans 5:8-11).  Fill us with your love until we overflow with your love for others.  Heal us through confession and forgiveness as you have promised, we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
