We celebrated with the Class of 2020 during an in-person commencement ceremony last Saturday on the Upper Quad. After surveying graduates, they overwhelmingly asked that commencement be rescheduled after it was cancelled back in April due to the pandemic. Those who attended followed health guidelines issued by the state of Utah and we had a spectacular celebration. Click on the video above and then check out additional pictures using the links below.
When Elizabeth "Lizzie" White Lee stepped to the podium on Saturday to give her commencement speech, she represented not only her class but also four generations of family members who call SUU their alma mater. Her father, Charles White graduated in 1995, grandfather Charles David White in 1971, and great-grandfather Howard Crosby White in 1965. Lizzie will be attending law school at prestigious Boston College this fall and says SUU provided her with a warm and welcoming environment.
Nouman Kante, SUU’s student body president, has lived a life filled with adversity and sacrifice, but through hard work, a lot of hope, and a smile that stretches from ear to ear, he has triumphed.
President Scott Wyatt recently contributed an article to the Deseret News discussing the future of higher education and how three major global events are speeding up innovation. He also outlined four developments that we will see in our colleges and universities across America in the next year or two.
SUU looks forward to welcoming students back to campus this fall. As we plan to resume on-campus, in-person classes for the fall 2020 semester, we are working diligently toward a vibrant student experience and a healthy campus environment. A group of faculty, staff, administrators and students continue to evaluate the challenges presented by COVID-19 and have developed a fall health plan and protocols.
With more than 60,000 graduates, SUU alumni are everywhere in the world making a difference. Enjoy this glimpse of a few alumni, among thousands, who represent our alma mater so well.
