Commencement on the Quad 2020
We celebrated with the Class of 2020 during an in-person commencement ceremony last Saturday on the Upper Quad. After surveying graduates, they overwhelmingly asked that commencement be rescheduled after it was cancelled back in April due to the pandemic. Those who attended followed health guidelines issued by the state of Utah and we had a spectacular celebration. Click on the video above and then check out additional pictures using the links below.

Elizabeth Lee
Student Speaker Claims Four Generations
When Elizabeth "Lizzie" White Lee stepped to the podium on Saturday to give her commencement speech, she represented not only her class but also four generations of family members who call SUU their alma mater. Her father, Charles White graduated in 1995, grandfather Charles David White in 1971, and great-grandfather Howard Crosby White in 1965. Lizzie will be attending law school at prestigious Boston College this fall and says SUU provided her with a warm and welcoming environment.

President Scott Wyatt recently contributed an article to the Deseret News discussing the future of higher education and how three major global events are speeding up innovation. He also outlined four developments that we will see in our colleges and universities across America in the next year or two.

Returning to Campus
SUU looks forward to welcoming students back to campus this fall. As we plan to resume on-campus, in-person classes for the fall 2020 semester, we are working diligently toward a vibrant student experience and a healthy campus environment. A group of faculty, staff, administrators and students continue to evaluate the challenges presented by COVID-19  and have developed a fall health plan and protocols.

August 27: A Conversation with Myndee Kay Larsen ('98), 4 p.m. MDT via Zoom. Myndee Kay is SUU's current alumni president and deputy commissioner of The Summit League. She is also a former coach and administrator, and still holds NCAA records for consecutive field goals made and single season field goal percentage. She is also the only Southern Utah women's basketball player ever to have her jersey retired. Myndee Kay will discuss empowerment, team work and what's going on in the NCAA. Watch here or add this event to your calendar
August 31: President Wyatt's Summer Reading ClubThe Poker Bride: The First Chinese in the Wild West by Chris Corbett, a story about Chinese immigrant Polly Bemis that takes place during the California gold rush. Tune into the President's Podcast for a discussion of the book.
Watch for August's Little Learning Lecture on Facebook and Instagram featuring Camille Thomas, associate professor of kinesiology & outdoor recreation and interim dean of SUU's new college of health sciences. Topic will be resilience.
