Drake Law celebrates commencement
Drake Law School held its Spring 2016 Commencement Ceremony on May 14 in the Knapp Center, where nearly 100 graduates crossed the stage. Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Cady, LW’78, delivered the commencement address. See photos from the ceremony on Drake Law’s Flickr page.
Drake Law named Top 25 Law School for Practical Training
Drake Law School has been recognized as a Top 25 Best Law School for Practical Training by The National Jurist. The annual rankings, which are featured in the magazine’s Spring 2016 issue, honor law schools that “go above and beyond in preparing law students for the real world.” This is the second year in a row Drake Law has been included in the list
Drake 3L named Distinguished Law Student by American College of Bankruptcy
Drake Law student Danielle Scimeca was recognized as a 2016 Distinguished Law Student by the American College of Bankruptcy. Scimeca was selected out of nominees from law schools in the Eighth Circuit and was honored at the College’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., this spring.
Drake Law students volunteer in New Orleans
Ten Drake Law students put in more than 300 cumulative hours of volunteer work with The Pro Bono Project during a volunteer trip to New Orleans over spring break. This marks the seventh year the Law School has organized the trip, which is led by Erin Lain, assistant dean for academic services.
Doré receives distinguished community service award
Matthew Doré, Richard M. and Anita Calkins Distinguished Professor of Law, was named the 2016 recipient of the Madelyn Levitt Distinguished Community Service Award, which recognizes one Drake faculty or staff member who is committed to giving back to others. Doré was honored at Drake’s faculty/staff service recognition celebration on May 3.
Drake Law students teach legal rights to juveniles
The Joan and Lyle Middleton Center for Children's Rights partnered with ArtForceIowa to establish the #KnowJustice project for Iowa youth in the judicial system. Drake Law students led workshops on the legal process and personal rights to the youth, who then expressed what they learned through art projects that are now displayed in a local exhibit.

Drake Law alumnus serves as Attorney General of American Samoa
When Eleasalo “Salo” Va’alele Ale, LW’94, left American Samoa, he hoped to someday return to serve his community. His wish would come true. Salo's journey led from Drake Law School to Hawaii to Minnesota before coming home to serve as Attorney General of American Samoa.
