OUR $2.2 BILLION IMPACT IN ACTION |
Prairie Meadows has provided more than $2.2 billion over the past 35 years through taxes and charitable donations to improve our community. With an unwavering commitment, we remain dedicated to helping advance meaningful projects and make an impact across Iowa. In 2023, $48.1 million was provided in charitable giving to promote economic development, agriculture, jobs, and tourism for individuals and groups across Polk County.
We partner with organizations to improve the lives of Iowans each year through our Legacy, Community Betterment, and Youth Sports and Recreational grant programs, event sponsorships, and in-kind donations as charitable giving is at our core. It is with great pride that Prairie Meadows has supported Polk County with $28.2 million; the City of Des Moines with a revenue sharing donation of $5.3 million; and Polk County Schools with $0.9 million.
In 2023, we provided $8.8 million through our Legacy Grant program, $4 million
in Community Betterment Grants, $303,000 in direct support for our Youth Sports
& Recreational Grants. Click here to learn more.

$25,000 Community Betterment Grant |
The Shoes That Fit (Des Moines Chapter) organization provides brand new shoes, winter coats, and winter boots to school students in need, assisting students from pre-k through 5th grade. This initiative supports over 3,000 students annually. With the Community Betterment Grant, more children are able to have the essential items they need to attend school every day. This ensures that no child has to go to school in the cold without a winter coat or miss school entirely due to a lack of shoes. In addition to addressing immediate needs, the organization also alleviates the discomfort of ill-fitting shoes, allowing children to concentrate on their schoolwork and improve their lives.

WOI-FM is Iowa Public Radio’s largest FM signal serving central Iowa. These funds support expenses related to the replacement of the transmitter, transmission line, and antenna, all of which have been in operation far past their intended operational expectancy. As the equipment ages, it becomes less reliable, and with replacement parts not readily available, a serious failure could result in several days if not weeks of being non-operational (off-air). Funding provides critical broadcast infrastructure and the state’s emergency alert system to allow Iowa Public Radio to better serve their listeners. Prairie Meadows remains dedicated to advancing vital community projects.

An Adair teen walks across graduation stage months after devastating crash thanks to On With Life and the 2022 Legacy Grant for the Giant Strides Expansion. On With Life opened its doors in 1991 with the purpose of assisting survivors and their families facing the challenge of a brain injury, in rebuilding their lives. This grant has provided On With Life with the ability to grow their impact by expanding capacity, increasing the number of individuals served, and providing further support to caregivers and families. Prairie Meadows takes great pride in funding meaningful projects that strengthen and expand opportunities and services offered within our community.

CELEBRATING OUR 35TH ANNIVERSARY |
We proudly celebrate our 35th Anniversary as central Iowa’s number one entertainment destination for gaming and entertainment. In 2023, we had our strongest fiscal year to date and a record-breaking year of charitable giving. Since 1989, we continue to promote economic development, jobs, agriculture, and tourism. As we grow, we continue to make a significant impact, totaling over $2.2 billion in charitable giving and taxes.
We work hard to evolve, to exceed expectations, and to be a leader in the industry. We remain dedicated to strengthen and expand opportunities, infrastructure and services offered in our community. Our leadership team constantly develops new ideas on how we can be even better, while staying true to the vision that led us to where we are today.
We would like to thank our employees, partners and community for being a part of our successful journey. The future is bright as we look forward to making an even bigger impact in central Iowa communities and throughout the state.
