Preparing for Commencement |
Commencement is ONE WEEK AWAY! To make sure you are prepared for the big day:
|
-
You must register on Marching Order to participate.
-
You must print your Grad Pass (on Marching Order) and bring it with you on Commencement day. Your Grad Pass will remain with you throughout the day and collected on stage. Your Grad Pass serve as your ticket to enter, and for name pronunciation during the ceremony.
-
All guests must print their guest tickets to facilitate entry. If a guest does not have a ticket, they cannot attend the ceremony. If you make multiple copies of the same ticket, only the first guest scanned with the unique QR code will be allowed access to the venue. Your tickets are accessible via Marching Order.
- As part of your agreement to participate in the ceremony, you have agreed to stay until the end of the ceremony. You cannot leave until the ceremony is over. We ask that your guests also remain until the end of the ceremony so that all graduates are given the same experience and respect.
-
In keeping with the tradition and solemnity of the ceremony, you must wear your academic regalia to participate in the ceremony. Please consider dressing up a bit for the occasion.

|
|
We recommend that you and your guests periodically visit the Commencement website for the most up-to-date information about the day. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to seeing you on Commencement day!

Your Arrival at PNC Bank Arts Center |
|
|
Graduates must enter PNC Bank Arts Center at the Platform Party, Faculty, Old Guard & Graduates Entrance (marked in purple on the diagram below) by showing their printed 'Grad Pass'. All graduates must be dressed in their academic regalia to enter the facility.
The undergraduate processional will begin by 8:45 a.m., with the formal ceremony starting a few minutes after 9 a.m. Undergraduate candidates and guests should plan to arrive between 7:30 a.m. – 8 a.m., arriving by 8 a.m. at the latest. The earliest arrival time for the students and guests attending the Undergraduate Ceremony is 7:30 a.m. Parking lots are free of charge (no pass required) and will open by 6:30 a.m.
For those who have reserved tickets on the bus to the Undergraduate ceremony, buses will depart from the Stevens campus (Babbio Center at 6th St) between 6 am and 7 am for graduates and guests with reserved seats only; graduates and guests may arrive anytime during that timeframe. Unfortunately, buses will not depart after 7 am, so please arrive on time. Undergraduate ceremony buses will leave from PNC Bank Arts Center to return to campus immediately following the ceremony until 1 pm.
Graduates and guests may also take NJ Transit to Aberdeen/Matawan station, and then call a cab or car service to take you from the train station to PNC Bank Arts Center (distance is about 4 miles). More info on NJ Transit available here: https://www.njtransit.com/

Commencement Code of Conduct |
Commencement is a time to celebrate and enjoy your accomplishments. However, it is also ceremonial. Graduates and guests are asked to honor the spirit of this important occasion by conducting themselves in a manner that is respectful of everyone participating in and attending the ceremonies.
|
-
Graduates and guests must abide by all policies of the PNC Bank Arts Center, with particular attention to the list of prohibited items detailed in the Commencement FAQs.
-
All provisions of Stevens Institute of Technology’s Student Code of Conduct apply to Commencement ceremonies.
-
Graduates must arrive on time, as indicated on the Commencement website and in ongoing communication to all graduates via Stevens email. Graduates who arrive late are not guaranteed to participate in the ceremony.
- Graduates must wear the Stevens-issued academic regalia. Caps may be decorated, so long as the decoration does not obstruct the view of other graduates and guests.
-
Although cheering and clapping for speakers and peers is encouraged, the noise level must not disrupt the ceremony. The use of air horns, bull horns, cow bells and any disruptive noise makers is prohibited.
- Cell phones and other electronic devices should be silenced for the duration of the ceremony.
-
Graduates should not bring any personal items to the ceremony as they are not permitted in the academic process or on stage when your name is read; there is no storage for these items.
- No guests are permitted near the stage at any time.
-
Graduates are expected to return to their seats after receiving their diploma on stage and remain in their seat for the duration of the ceremony to show respect for all graduates in the Class of 2024.
-
All graduates are required to stay for the full length of the ceremony out of respect for all of the graduates. Guests are strongly encouraged to stay for the full ceremony. If their guests need to leave earlier, then the graduate should plan for separate transportation at the end of the ceremony.
- Taking selfies while on the stage is not permitted.
|
|
|
By participating in or attending Stevens Institute of Technology’s 2024 Commencement Ceremonies, graduates and guests agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Graduates are required to share this Code of Conduct with their ticketed guests. Anyone in violation of this Code of Conduct may be escorted out of the venue.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation in making this a special day for all involved.

Last Call for Commencement Tickets!
|
We are pleased to announce that we are able to offer graduates (1) extra Theater Ticket and (2) extra Lawn Tickets beyond the initial ticket allotment for those hoping to bring additional guests. Students can claim them on the Marching Order website by using your account with password you created. Tickets are made available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last; additional tickets are not guaranteed to all graduates.
Round two of ticketing ends at 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. After the deadline, all unclaimed tickets become property of Stevens Institute of Technology. Every guest must have their own unique ticket. Multiple copies of the same ticket will not be permitted as only the first guest scanned with the unique QR code will be allowed access to the venue. For those guests who cannot attend or who prefer to watch the ceremonies from the comfort of their own home, the ceremonies will be live streamed.

Receiving Your Diploma On Stage
|
Graduates are called individually on to the stage to receive their diploma during the Commencement ceremonies. This process moves extremely quickly so that we can get to each graduate. Graduates will first have a photo taken backstage and receive a diploma cover to carry out on stage. Graduates will then be prompted to scan their 'Grad Pass' when they get to the stage area, after which their name is announced as they walk out on to the stage. They will shake President Farvardin's hand when on stage as another photo is taken, and then a final photo is taken as the graduate returns backstage. Then, graduates are directed back to their seats to await the end of the ceremony. Graduates will have the option to purchase these photos after the ceremony.
If a graduate is uncomfortable shaking hands or unable to shake hands as they cross the stage to receive their diploma, the graduate has been instructed to place their right hand over their heart (like what is done during the pledge of allegiance in the United States) as they approach you. When the graduate stops, they should bow their head.
To be clear, graduates receive only a diploma cover at the Commencement ceremony. The office of the Registrar will ship your diploma to your permanent address listed in Workday. Graduates from May 2024 can expect their official diplomas by mid-July. August and January graduates should have already received their diplomas. If you have not, or if you have any questions, please contact the Office of the Registrar at registrar@stevens.edu.

How to Wear Academic Regalia
|
|
|
