In Our Summer Era

We hope that you are having a marvelous summer! We’d love to know what you’re up to, whether you’re at summer school, working a summer job, camping with your family, traveling the world, or just catching some rays at the beach – let us know!

We have been busy this summer too – we’ve celebrated Juneteenth and Pride, welcomed some new interns to our team, and have been busy talking about friendships and relationships in summer schools. We’ve also been planning some cool projects for the upcoming school year – look out for those below and contact us if you’d like to get involved. You can EMAIL US anytime and visit our YOUTH WEBSITE for contact info, resources, and information.

Youth Making a Difference

We love to highlight young people in the community who are impacting our world in inspiring ways. We asked our interns to choose some youth and young adults from the news that they think are making positive change.
Amika George

Amika George

Amika George is the Founder of FreePeriods, a global campaign to end period poverty, which she started at the age of 17. She studied History at Cambridge University. Her campaign successfully persuaded the UK government to pledge funds to provide free menstrual products in all English schools and colleges. She also published a BOOK called “Make It Happen” about how to be an activist.

Check out this ARTICLE about Amika and find her HERE.

X Gonzalez

X Gonzalez

X Gonzalez is an American activist and advocate for gun control. Gonzalez is a survivor of the February 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Shooting in Parkland, Florida. X first drew national attention after a speech they gave at a rally against gun violence, proclaiming “We call BS on the lack of action by politicians.” They continued to advocate for gun control, and organized the March For Our Lives, becoming the largest student protest in American history.

What's On Our Minds

We asked our interns to pick some topics they’d like to share information about. They created some tips and found some advice for us. Check it out:

Disagreeing in a friendship or relationship
By MVP Intern
Most friendships will encounter challenges at some point. Some conflicts can help to deepen a friendship, while other conflicts may be deal-breakers.
Tips on Making Up
Decide if you're ready. Are you still angry?
Reconnect in person.
Talk about the issue early in the conversation.
Take responsibility for your part - apologize if needed.
Find new common grounds.
Explain your perspective.
Meet somewhere neutral and talk about it calmly.
Try to forgive and move on.
Agree to disagree when needed.
It can be good to make up and move on, and in some cases it may be better to move away from that friendship if it would lead to deep resentment or a toxic relationship, which wouldn't be healthy for you mentally/emotionally. You'll need to figure that out as these things happen.
Relationships and Social Media
By MVP Intern
  • Not everything you see on social media is real
  • A relationship can look happy, but we'll never know the full story and what life is like in the relationship
  • Don't rely on social media for relationship fulfillment
  • Spend less time on social media and find time to spend together with a partner without social media interrupting
