Dear Division Cocoa-leagues,
|
It’s National Cocoa Day!!! So go ahead and melt away your troubles by grabbing a mugnificent cup of cocoa and sipping back to relax as you dip into this edition of the Student Life Spotlight. In this issue, we aim to deck the halls with Impact by recapping our Christmas events. Let’s celebrate the achievements and experiences that make our campus life so special. First, let these four fun cocoa facts sink in:
|
-
Ancient Origins: Hot cocoa dates back more than 2,000 years to the Mayans, who enjoyed a bitter and spicy beverage made from ground cacao beans.
- Medicinal Beliefs: Early Mesoamericans believed hot cocoa had restorative properties. Aztec warriors drank it before battles.
-
Health Benefits: Hot cocoa is rich in antioxidants, which can help improve heart health and reduce inflammation.
- Cultural Variations: In some cultures, hot cocoa is flavored with cinnamon or chili powder for an extra kick.

Christmas on 5th Street – Ask any student on campus what their favorite Baylor tradition is, and many (if not most) will reply "Christmas on 5th Street." We all love the holiday season, but there is something unique about Christmas at Baylor University. The centerpiece of the Baylor Christmas will always be the Christmas on 5th Street celebration. This year, we were joined by the new folk-rock band Briscoe for one of the most toe-tapping tree lightings in recent years. Of course, Christmas wouldn't be complete without photos in Santa's lap, the best Christmas market in Christmas on 5th history, and some live camels grazing outside of the SUB in our live manger. See photos from the event further down in the "Moment" section of this email.

Midnight Breakfast – Oh, to be young and view 10 p.m. to midnight as the perfect time for fellowship, platefuls of breakfast food, and karaoke. Every year as our students head into exams, on the last day of classes, they gather in Penland to let off some steam and just chill for a few hours. Special thanks to the Baylor Activities Council as well as our partners at Chartwells for making this annual tradition one of the most smile- and laughter-filled events of the year!

Partnering with the School of Music to present "A Baylor Christmas," the Waco Hall team created a first-class setting and experience to showcase the talent of our School of Music choirs and bands. "A Baylor Christmas" is one of the joys each year as we celebrate Christmas on our campus. This year was once again awesome, due to the collaboration of the WH crew and the School of Music. This was the first time this event has taken place in Waco Hall, opening it up to many more patrons to enjoy it. The creativity and lighting expertise of the team truly complemented the remarkable artistry in a very inviting way. This performance each Christmas season truly is special as our talented students usher in the Christmas spirit. Kudos to the WH team for hosting the incredible multi-day event and for setting the scene, hosting with hospitality and supporting our students as they use their gifts to bless our campus and the Waco community.
