Once Again Individuals Dwarf All Other Categories of Giving
Based on the above chart from GivingUSA 2104 Highlightstotal of $335 billion was contributed to nonprofits in 2013 in the U.S. Individuals gave 72% and another 8 % was donated through bequests for a total of 80%. In contrast, foundations gave only 15% and corporations gave 5% (a decrease of almost 2% from 2012). So if your nonprofit is surviving on grants you are missing out on a steady stream of resources! See former ZimNotes article, The Importance of Individual Giving (written in 2003 but still true today!)
Bias and Diversity Resources
On June 13, 2014 Ann Lehman was part of a roundtable for the Association of Fundraising Professional  (AFP) on bias issues in the nonprofit sector. Here is her list of resources, which includes information on exectuive presense (leadershp skills) for multicultural individuals, the business case for gender diversity, a free webinar on "Inclusion Nudges," AFPs own diversity resources and a ZimNotes article on board diversity.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:    "If an organization is not receiving sufficient donations, it is often because 'the board and staff don't ask for donations effectively, they don't ask often enough, and sometimes they don't ask --period,' writes Robert Zimmerman" -The Chronicle of Philanthropy
"A hands-on guide...The book's goal is to inform directors of the many ways board members can and should facilitate and engage in the fundraising efforts."-The Foundation Center
