"New tenants announced for Steel Point" - Connecticut Post
Starbucks and Chipotle Mexican Grill will be among the first tenants at Steelpointe Harbor.
Mayor Bill Finch and Bob Christoph Jr., principal of Bridgeport Landing Development, announced the newest additions to the massive waterfront development Wednesday afternoon near the developer's office in the Park City Plaza, at 10 Middle St.
The establishments will join retailer Bass Pro Shops, the anchor tenant.
"Siting Council OKs Solar Array For Bridgeport Landfill" - Hartford Courant
On Thursday, the Connecticut Siting Council approved Bridgeport’s Green Energy Park –consisting of 9,000 solar panels and a 2.8Mw fuel cell atop an old and unused landfill – giving a final regulatory green light for the clean energy project to commence. The project has also received approval from the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), the Bridgeport Parks Commission, and the Bridgeport City Council.
The Siting Council voted 6-1 in favor of the solar project and 7-0 in favor of the fuel cell facility.
Green Energy Park will create up to 92 jobs. It will bring in $7 million in tax revenue to the city during its 20 year lease. It will produce enough clean energy to power 5,000 homes. And, because it produces virtually pollutant free energy, it will help kids breathe cleaner air. This is particularly important in Bridgeport where kids suffer from asthma and breathing ailment rates that are 3 times the state average.
“This is great news and serves as further proof that Bridgeport’s getting better every day,” said Mayor Bill Finch.

"Clergy, Police, And Mayors Put Questions To Gun Manufacturers" WNPR

Mayor Bill Finch and Police Chief Joseph Gaudett joined clergy, police, and town leaders from throughout Connecticut, Westchester County, and Long Island in asking gun manufacturers what they’re going to do to make guns safer.
A total of 63 jurisdictions in 13 states have joined the strategy, “Do Not Stand Idly By,” to push gun manufacturers to promote smart gun technologies if they want municipalities and states to continue buying from them to equip safety personnel.
"Bridgeport Leads 2013 Violent Crime Reduction in New England Cities" - Connecticut Post
In 2014, police and city officials continue to work with the community to make our city streets safer for our kids and families.
“I am proud of what we have accomplished, but we still have work to do. One homicide is too many. We have seen violence consistently decline here in Bridgeport, and it has reached historic lows we have not seen in four decades,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “Our community has seen that and the media has taken notice. And the business community has seen that as well and want to move into our city to create jobs — businesses like Bass Pro, and Starbucks and Chipotle. Here in Bridgeport, we know we have turned the corner.”
In Bridgeport, the city has seen a consistent decline in violence over the last decade. WPRI, television station in Providence, examined statistics from 1985 to 2013 in New Haven, Hartford, Stamford, Bridgeport, Worcester, Mass., Providence and Springfield, Mass.

The review showed that, in 2013, the cities all experienced a decrease in violence except for one.
“At 21%, Bridgeport saw that largest drop in violent crime among similar-sized New England cities” in 2013, the station reported.
