How are we doing? “So far, so good.” When someone says that to me, I always say, “Well, so far is all we have . . .” So far, Solomon has been doing well. Remember, he asked for wisdom and when God gave it he thanked him. Then he built the temple and prayed and God’s Spirit came to dwell there. So far, so good.
However. After all the good Solomon did, however, he loved many foreign women and worshiped their idols. He had to know God’s commands about this, but he chose the idolatry of other nations over exclusive commitment to Christ. So after starting out well, so far, he turned his heart away from God.
What is your, “however”? I mean, what is the part of your life that you have not surrendered to Jesus’ Lordship. Beware. It will sink your ship. We may say, “I’ve loved the Lord for my whole life. I was baptized. I have been faithful to my church. I pray and read the Bible.” Okay. So far so good. But our testimony is never safe until we get home. Let’s covenant together to avoid the next “however” the enemy sends our way. Then when we get home we can say, “So far, so good.”
