More ways to help Oregon's lands recover from fires and improve parks
Due to record-breaking fires and repeated, extreme heat waves, Oregon's trees and park-structures have experienced unusually severe damage in recent years. Additionally, challenges in resources and funding have resulted in deferred park maintenance across the state which is why we created the WE CARE FOR PARKS FUND. Our Climate Resiliency Fund (formerly Wildfire Replanting Fund) funded the replanting of 804,000 trees in 2023 in places devastated by wildfires from Tillamook Forest to Collier State Park, and many other parks and trails in between.
We are hosting an upcoming Spring Work Weekend with the Canyon Comeback in Santiam Canyon Parks with partners Marion County Parks, Trailkeepers of Oregon, and SOLVE with volunteer opportunities on May 4 and May 5, 2024, to aid in restoration efforts. Learn more and sign up.
Volunteers will work on light construction tasks, including building trails, assembling picnic tables, installing signs, debris and invasive species removal, and more. Shuttle service will be available from Lyons, OR (ODF parking lot at Hwy 20) to North Fork Park on May 4, 2024, and from Gates, OR (Gates Park and Ride) to Minto Park on May 5, 2024. Event organizers will provide all tools, and there will be an award-winning food truck onsite for volunteers to enjoy from 11:00a.m. to 1:30p.m. each day. These efforts will be instrumental in reopening
some of these beloved parks in time for the 2024 recreation season.
