The 2023 Music Cities Convention is less than four months away. Our excitement is building as we get ready to host the biggest global event exploring the use and importance of music in the development of cities all around the world.

The first round of speakers was recently announced, and it’s an impressive mix of cultural economy advocates, music managers, music and health specialists, directors of music and arts festivals, venue managers and more! 

To ensure the artists who make Huntsville’s music scene so special have an opportunity to make the most out of the Music Cities Convention, local musicians are eligible for a complimentary ticket! The deadline to apply is July 30. 

World-class music performances brought excitement and inspiration to the thousands of Huntsville residents and tourists who came together and participated in Juneteenth celebrations at The Orion Amphitheater, The Camp, Big Spring Park, Straight to Ale and other venues throughout the city.

Diversity and inclusion are fundamental to the development of a successful ecosystem, and we want to thank all of the amazing bands, vocalists, choirs, soloists, DJs, dancers and artists who embodied the spirit of the observance.  

Make Music Day Huntsville was a huge success! Mother Nature tried to intervene, but she couldn’t dampen our spirits.

There were over 60 performances in various spaces across the City featuring talented local artists of all ages and genres. From front porches to restaurants, living rooms, offices, businesses and even a fire station, music filled the air in Huntsville all throughout the day.

Thanks so much to everyone who made music, hosted and attended performances on June 21, and we’d especially like to thank Huntsville Hospital’s Music Therapy Program for partnering up with us on this awesome initiative. We’re already counting down the days to Make Music Day 2024!

Music Officer Matt Mandrella recently sat down with Huntsville City Council President John Meredith as part of his monthly forum to discuss The Orion Amphitheater as well as in-roads the Music Office is making. The program will premier at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, on HSV-TV and HuntsvilleAL.gov/HSVTV.
