Grief and memory, much like the relentless ebb and flow of waves, has a way of resurfacing with undiminished strength, even after the passage of time. Hurricane Idalia brought back a flood of emotions for many members of our community who recalled with anticipation the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.
In its wake, Theresa Schroeder, our truly incredible Admissions Assistant & Data Specialist, shared her 2018 reflective essay—“Why We Stay”—with other administrators in the Garden House and we all felt its resonance.
Thank you, Theresa, for sharing your voice in such a beautifully profound and vulnerable way: “Hurricanes (and any natural disaster, for that matter) serve as a reminder to us. To the outside, they remind us how precarious and fragile our existence really is; but, to the inside, they remind us what really matters—and it manifests in amazing ways.” Read more >>

"My focus of gratitude is towards Julie Smith, long standing Seahorse teacher. Your genuine ability to build community and unwavering joy make you a cornerstone of our school. The way you inspire generations of Seahorses to wonder and search their natural world for curiosities is a gift and one we are all so grateful to experience. Thank you for being with us dear Friend."
