Professor Ellen Yee was honored with the inaugural Principal Financial Group Global Citizenship Award during the Fall 2015 Convocation on Aug. 28. The annual award recognizes one Drake faculty or staff member who has made outstanding contributions to global engagement and internationalization of Drake's campus and curriculum.
Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, LW’74, visited Drake Law School on Aug. 20 to speak to first-year J.D. students during new student orientation.
“The great thing about a law degree is there are a lot of opportunities,” Branstad told the group. “The critical thinking skills and communication skills that you get in law school will open a lot of doors for you.”
Beginning this fall semester, Drake Law School is offering evening courses for J.D. and M.J. programs. The addition of evening courses, which are available during the fall, spring, and summer terms, will allow greater flexibility for individuals who wish to pursue a law degree while continuing to work or juggling multiple priorities.
This fall, Drake Law School welcomed its inaugural class of the new M.J. in Health Law. The 28-credit program is designed to expand health care professionals’ understanding of health law and advance their career opportunities. Professor Denise Hill is serving as director of the Health Law Program.
Marsha Ternus, LW'77, was inducted into the Iowa Women's Hall of Fame on Aug. 22 for her impact on the status of women in Iowa. Ternus served on the Iowa Supreme Court for 17 years and became the first woman to hold the title of Chief Justice when she was selected for the position in 2006.

Features
Drake 3L assists with first-degree murder case, appears on Dateline NBC
When Mallory Weiser began her internship with the Polk County Attorney’s Office, she had no idea she would end up on national television. The third-year Drake Law student assisted prosecutors in a first-degree murder case and sat at the counsel table during the trial, which was recently spotlighted on Dateline NBC.
Professor Pattison advocates for children's rights
Brent Pattison became inspired to be a lawyer for children while working at a homeless youth shelter in college. Drake Law alumna returns to her roots as part of Hy-Vee's legal team
Shannon Woods’ first job was at Hy-Vee. She grew up in Chariton, Iowa, which was home to one of Hy-Vee’s first corporate offices in the 1940s, and she worked for Hy-Vee all through college. So it made sense for Woods, LW'03, to return to Hy-Vee, Inc. as assistant general counsel and assistant secretary last year.
