What People Are Saying...
UCP Board Member, Brian Barksdale, shares a tender moment with granddaughter, Caroline, who attends Hand In Hand and benefits from on-site UCP physical therapists. Barksdale said, “She is now able to enjoy the swings, slides and climbing areas in the new playground with her typically developing friends. And playground activity is some of the best therapy her little body can get.”
Dear Friends,
This issue focuses on the importance of children and adults being able to experience safe and fun "play" in its many forms.  Your compassion and support makes all of the difference in their lives.  For that we are beyond THANKFUL.
With gratitude,
Dr. Gary Edwards, Chief Executive Officer
Introducing Our NEW FULLY ACCESSIBLE Playground
The first day of any school year is always filled with excitement, but this year, the first day held extra excitement for the children in our Hand In Hand Inclusive Early Learning Program.

Team UCP - Court Is in Session

Every day at UCP, we strive to provide more and more meaningful quality experiences within the community for adults with disabilities. A true example of this came to life when dedicated UCP Staff Member, Robert Darrington, established a basketball league for adults with disabilities and special needs in the Birmingham Area. Come cheer our team on as they play UnlessU THIS FRIDAY, November 18 at 10:15 at Shades Mountain Baptist Church.  Learn more about the inaugural season.
Ask The Expert: Holiday Toy Guide
- by Melissa Pouncey, M.S. CCC-SLP

It’s that time of year again, and everyone is asking, “What should we get _____ (insert your precious child’s name) for the holidays?” It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when coming up with an answer, especially when it seems like your entire house is ALREADY full of things just for said child. As a Mama to two little bits and a pediatric Speech Language Pathologist, I get asked a lot what toys promote development, especially in the areas of communication and social skills. So here are some thoughts as you begin deciding what gifts to buy this holiday season.

Board Spotlight: Steve Crawford, Chair
Whenever I am having a bad day all I have to do is think about UCP and all the great things going on at the campus and my day is instantly better. From the participants to the staff and leadership, little miracles happen there every day. I'm proud and honored to have the chance to join the thousands of donors, volunteers, staff and fellow board members (past and present) that have worked hard over the many years to build UCP from its early beginnings to what we have today. Being on the Board of Directors is the best job I've ever had!  United Central Palsy of Greater Birmingham is a very special place and has a special place in my heart!
