Marie's Message

It is hard to believe that the fair is next week!

I like to think of the fair as a way for all 4-H members, parents and leaders to help promote the 4-H program. One way to do that is to share in our t-shirt fun every day of the fair. Each day I would encourage you to wear the following:

Wednesday - 4-H Movement/Spark
Thursday - member experience (trips) or state program (Arts, STEM, etc)
Friday - 4-H camp day (summer camp, day camp, arts camp)
Saturday - your club tshirt - Let's see all the cool 4-H club shirts!
Sunday - project day shirt

That way if people are interested in 4-H or a specific program/activity/club they can ask.

Second, I would like to remind all 4-Hers entered at the fair, this is an activity that you do in 4-H. It is a chance for learning, growing, and developing your skills. It doesn’t matter what color ribbon you received, but what you learned in the project. Most of all, I hope that you have a chance to have fun at the fair. For many of us this is the last big event of the summer, a chance to gather with old friends, meet new people and learn from each other.

NOTE: There will not be a Friday Focus next week, so good luck to everyone and I hope to see you at the fair!

Please Note These Judging Schedules:

Cloverbuds is judged on Tuesday, August 15th face-to-face when entries are brought in.

Woodworking is judged on Tuesday, August 15 starting at 10:30 am. Judging is face-to-face when entries are brought in. There will be a break in the judging from 2-3 pm.

Farm Scenes are judged on Tuesday, August 15 starting at 10:00 am. Farm scenes must be set up by 7:00 pm.

PLEASE help us help them!! Contact your Club's General Leader OR contact the Extension Office so we can get these lists completed with volunteers.

THE YOUTH BUILDING NEEDS YOUR HELP!!

All of those great projects that you bring to the fair in the Youth Building need your help.
We need some people to:

> Help make sure projects are not messed/interfered with
> Make sure trash is not left behind/clean up any trash
> Walk the building and entrances to straighten up any wind blown items
> Youth Building Office will have complete list of tasks

Recycling is Back at Dodge County Fair!

Recycling is back at Dodge County Fair for it's 2nd year! Lessons learned from last year have improved recycling this year. We have a new recycling location by the horse arena storage shed. Volunteers needed to help collect and sort recyclables. Ages 10 years and up.
** Youth Volunteers receive a food coupon for completing a shift **

When: August 16-20th.
7am - 9am = Gather recycling bags around Fairgrounds (UTV & wagon)
8am-10am = Sorting recycling bottles and cans

MAS HELP NEEDED

MEAL HELP:
The MAS Bidder/Buyer Meal has been going up in cost. The Committee has made some changes to make it more affordable, however they need some help! Please contact Mike Guenther at micglen2@hotmail.com if you can help on the committee and take care of serving the meal.

AUCTION HELP:

The Committee also needs some auction help! We need a couple of organized, friendly faces to help check in buyers for the auction. Please contact Marie Witzel at marie.witzel@wisc.edu to volunteer.

Thank you for your help volunteering! Volunteers are what make it possible for us to continue to be successful year after year.

Judges Helpers Needed: It takes many hands helping to make the fair run smoothly. If you would like to help during the Junior Fair judging, let us know we need help in several departments. Contact Ellen Bohn at ebohn@co.dodge.wi.us.

4-H Movement Jibbitz Design Contest

Have you heard about Jibbitz? We are looking for members to use their voice and creativity to illustrate the values of WI 4-H by entering the WI 4-H Movement Jibbitz Design Contest. If you did not know, Jibbitz are the charms or shapes that you can add to croc type shoes, but you can also add them to a bracelet as well.

We will select several youth designs, and once they are made into Jibbitz, youth throughout Wisconsin 4-H will have the opportunity to collect up to 8 different Jibbitz by participating in fun challenges or participating in statewide programming. Deadline to submit your designs is September 1st, and they can be submitted through the link below:

Beef Project Display Challenge!

The Wisconsin Beef Council and Wisconsin 4-H Foundation are offering a display contest to all Wisconsin 4-H beef project members. The goal of the contest is to encourage 4-H beef project members and exhibitors to create an informative and appealing display that will educate consumers attending fairs or other events throughout the summer.
Entry deadline: September 30th.
