On October 10th, the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA), in partnership with Vision North Texas, proudly launched its milestone year with the CAPPA 10 Kickoff Summit. This event celebrated a decade of innovation, collaboration, and impact in shaping the future of North Texas.

The summit brought together faculty, students, alumni, and community leaders, including Arlington Mayor Jim Ross, UTA President Dr. Jennifer Cowley, and UTA Provost Tamara Brown, for an inspiring day of reflection and forward-looking dialogue.

A highlight of the summit was a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Dr. Taner R. Özdil, featuring Todd Little (NCTCOG), Tamela Thornton (ULI-DFW), Chris Wallace (NTC-DFW), and President Cowley. The panel explored the challenges and opportunities of regional growth, emphasizing the importance of cross-sector collaboration to achieve a sustainable and inclusive future.

Department of Public Affairs and Planning Honors Convocation:

The Department of Public Affairs and Planning (PAPL) proudly honored the achievements of its outstanding graduate students at the annual Honors Convocation. PAPL students who were awarded scholarships and graduate assistantships and were inducted into Pi Alpha Alpha, the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration, were honored. For the first time, PAPL also established the Outstanding GRA and GTA Awards to recognize the exemplary service of the graduate student assistants.

Landscape Architecture 50^th Anniversary:

The Landscape Architecture (LARC) program proudly celebrated its 50th anniversary. Alumni, faculty, students, and friends gathered to reflect on five decades of design, innovation, and impact.

The event featured a dynamic panel discussion with alumni from across generations, who shared stories, milestones, and memories that have shaped both the program and the profession.

It was a memorable milestone that brought together the LARC community, longtime supporters, and new faces alike to honor the program’s enduring legacy and look ahead to its bright future. For the full album, check out HERE!

Dr. Jiwon Suh has been selected for the NASPAA NEXT 2025–2026 cohort, a prestigious year-long leadership development program organized by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA). 

Dr. Ariadna Reyes-Sánchez’s co-authored article, “A Mixed-Methods Assessment of Energy Insecurity in the United States,” has been published in the Journal of the American Planning Association (JAPA).

Faculty preparing to submit external grant proposals are reminded to have their budgets reviewed at least 2 weeks before submission. Please complete the Budget Review Form for External Grants here:

Research Enhancement Program (REP) grants are awarded specifically to support research and professional creative activity. The grant serves as seed funding for launching new research and serves as a foundation for future research and funding from external sources. Any full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty member of The University of Texas at Arlington is eligible to apply for a Research Enhancement Program grant. The budget for a Research Enhancement Program grant proposal submitted by a single investigator is up to $12,000; a proposal submitted by two or more investigators is up to $16,000, regardless of the number of collaborating faculty. The REP proposal guidelines for the 2026-27 cycle are now available.

The application will open on November 3, 2025, and close on December 5, 2025. All applications are to be completed in Mentis. Applicants will be notified by April 3, 2026.

The FDL Program provides release time to tenured faculty members to support a variety of activities, including publication, research, teaching, and creative activities. 

The Professional Development Travel Award is available to full-time faculty, both Tenured/Tenure-Track and Academic Professional Track, including department chairs and program directors with a faculty appointment. The program supports travel related to enhancing UT Arlington's faculty excellence and national/international reputation in research, creative activity, and teaching. 

This is a reminder to complete your Annual Employee Compliance training in Canvas; the due date is Thursday, Nov. 6. Your NetID will be deactivated if you don't complete your training. Be sure you keep your certificate of completion. 

Join Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at the UTA planetarium for Mindful Moments Under the Stars on Wednesdays from 12:15 - 12:45 pm., starting Wednesday, August 27. Open to all UTA students, faculty, and staff. No registration is required.
