The Houston Astro's recent success has reawakened my love for baseball. Watching the Derek Jeter number retirement on Sunday reminded me that some players just stand out. He will surely make the Baseball Hall of Fame. What about our own Carlos Beltran? I remember him as a "five-tool" player when he played here before. His extra base hits as a switch hitter put him in extremely elite company.
What would it take to make the Hall of Fame of faith? Well, faith! Why is faith so important? Without faith we cannot please God. Faith enables us to come to God because we not only believe that God exists but that he rewards those who seek him.
Trust is a synonym for faith, as is belief. What do we believe about God? How does that affect the way you approach this day? Today I get to go and see my sweet mom. I long for the day when her brilliant mind is completely restored in the presence of God. Then she will know as she is known by God. Until then I remember her infusion of faith into my life. I can hear her singing the old hymn: "Jesus, Jesus how I trust him; how I've proved him o'er and o'er. Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus, oh for grace to trust him more."

Father, as we remember all of your faithful people who have gone before, please grow our faith today, too. We have proved you time and again. Give us grace that we may trust you more. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
