Psalm 139:17-18
How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.

New International Version (NIV)
Neuroscientists, studying the brain have made enormous progress in understanding the way human beings think.   Neurofeedback records the activity of different parts of our brains.  So far though, no instrument we know of can tell us what we are thinking at any given moment.
What does God think?  Do you ever wonder?  For all of our enormous improvements and the explosion of knowledge in our lifetime, God is infinite and our minds are finite.  David prayed with humility when he tried to think of God’s thoughts.
In the scriptures we have a record of God’s thoughts.  He tells us through his word what he thinks about important things.  So as far as we can, we hope not to be consciously and knowingly outside God’s will revealed in God’s word.
Imagine David going to sleep thinking about God and waking up only to discover that he was still with God.  We might expect him to say, “You are still with me.”  Of course our omnipresent God is with us.  But when we awake are we consciously with him.  Is he our first thought or only an afterthought today?  As I think about my mom who went home to the Lord this weekend, I imagine this describes her experience.  She went to sleep in the presence of the Lord on earth, and then she awakened, absent from the body, present with the Lord and said, “I am still with you.”  Are we with God today?  He is surely with us, always with us.
Pray with me:
Father we thank you for your thoughts.  Help us to think on things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy.  Give us the mind of Christ today.  Help us to practice your presence through this day and to lie down tonight confident of this:  when we awake we will still be with you.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
