Acts 16:6-7
Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.  When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.
New International Version (NIV)
Friends from another continent became lost in downtown Houston.  They called a friend who lives here to ask for directions.  She tried to help by asking them where they were.  Quickly checking the names on the signs at the corner, they answered, “We are at the corner of ‘Walk’ and ‘Don’t Walk.’”  I have been to that corner.  Have you?  How do we know which way God wants us to go?

Paul  was going somewhere, but twice he was stopped in his tracks by the Lord.  How did God stop him?  Luke doesn’t explain except to say the Holy Spirit wouldn’t let them go to Asia and the “Spirit of Jesus,” disallowed a journey into Bithynia.  If God gives you a red light, by all means do not run it.  God has appointments for us to keep in other places, so we don’t want to be “out of position.”

Finally God gave Paul a vision of a Macedonian asking for help.  Immediately Paul and his companions boarded a ship and went there.  Once God shows us where he wants us to go, we should not delay.  Upon their arrival in Philippi, Paul and Silas met a group at the river outside the city.  There they shared the gospel with Lydia and made the first disciples in Europe.  At the beginning of each day ask the Lord where he wants you to go.  When he shows you, go in his grace for his glory alone.

Pray with me:
Father, thank you for the times in our lives when you have stopped us in our tracks.  We wait for your directions today.  Where do you want us to go?  Take us to the place of our greatest desire and the world’s greatest need.  Leave us there long enough to make a difference in some life we pray.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
