It happened again. This time to me! I drove through Starbucks a few days before Christmas. As I pulled out my wallet, the host said, “The person in front of you paid for your drink and wished you merry Christmas.” Surprised, I said, “Did they know me?” “No, I don’t think so,” she answered. This was my big chance. I could drink my free fat-free Chai by myself, or bless the person behind me.
When humankind is at its worst, God is so often at his best. After disobedience, fratricide, a flood and a tower, the rebellion of humans seemed to be at an all time low. Then God chose one family to make a difference in the world. He called Abram’s family to leave Ur of the Chaldees to travel to a new and different land. God’s certainly intended to bless Abram and Sarai, but it did not stop there. He intended to bless the nations through them. They knew God was blessing them, but they had to choose to be a blessing to others.
I decided to do a little research. “How many cars in a row have done this?” The Starbucks attendant answered, “Ten or twelve . . . I’m not sure.” “What is the record?” I asked. She said, “I’ve seen 21 but my boss has seen hundreds pay for the next person. I gladly handed my credit card to keep the chain of blessing going. One thing we know for sure: God blesses us just because he loves to bless us. He also wants to make us a blessing. You are in the chain of grace. This is your big chance. What will you do?
