"You snooze, you lose." When David's family was taken captive, he brought out the Ephesians to inquire whether they should pursue their enemy. God answered, "Yes," through the ephod. But some were too tired to complete the trip and the battle. Those who fought did not want to share with those who didn't. But David chose to be generous with others.
Later, the Son of David, Jesus, told a story about an employer who paid day laborers equally though some had worked fewer hours (Matthew 20:1-16). When we have worked harder than others, we may stand for justice. "Fair is fair. You snooze, you lose," we may think. But God is a gracious and compassionate Father. Do we really want what we deserve from God?
God's generosity calls us to have a generous spirit with others. We forgive because we have been forgiven. We share because everything we have comes from the Lord. Look for an opportunity to be gracious with others today. Every time we do, we reveal the truth about God's grace.
