PHOTO RECAP:
The Grand Opening Celebration of ICE at Santa Monica
Outdoor Ice-Skating Rink

Downtown Santa Monica has frozen over! On Thursday, November 6, the corner of Arizona and 5th Street lit up with DJ jams, drifting feux-snow, and winter spirit for the Grand Opening Celebration of ICE at Santa Monica. Hundreds came to christen the 8,000 sq.ft. real ice-skating rink from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, enjoying food from local purveyors, artistic installations, and ice-skating theatrics.
The event kicked off with a glittering performance by the California Gold Synchronized Skating Team. After the rink opened up to the masses, DJ Kelly Dlux set the scene with a score of pop hits.
Officers and mentors of the Santa Monica Police Activities League (PAL) were in attendance with their youth members to enjoy the ice and complimentary food from local vendors. Guests, family and friends engaged a cookie decorating station, an interactive wintry-themed photo-booth, and left with DTSM tote bags screen-printed on-site.
Operated by Downtown Santa Monica, Inc., the rink is open to all ages looking to have an icy blast. The cost to skate is only $15 and includes skate rental and unlimited skating for the entire day of purchase. The cabanas that line the perimeter are perfect for private events, birthday parties, and holiday gatherings, and for those looking for a bit of skill on the ice, lessons are available through the Randy Gardner's School of Skating. Designed by American figure skating legend Randy Gardner, ICE at Santa Monica provides the perfect scene for any person, couple, family, or private party looking to take part in a winter tradition, build technique and enjoy what those on the east coast cannot – ice-skating in short sleeves.

Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. has also teamed up with the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings hockey program to provide hockey lessons for skaters of all skill sets.  For four Sundays in December and January, experienced coaches and staff will be on the ICE with skaters, teaching the same skills and techniques that the Kings used to win the Stanley Cup.
