Proverbs 18:10
The name of the Lord is a fortified tower;
    the righteous run to it and are safe.

New International Version (NIV)
                 Are we really safe?  Has any culture in history spent more money on security than ours does?  In our post 9/11 world with stories of people killing each other in mass murders on a regular basis, we may wonder, “Are we really safe in this world?”  In what or whom do we place our trust?  We could build a fortress or an ark.

                Solomon found security uniquely in the name of the Lord.  He uses the name, “Yahweh,” or “I am that I am.”  God’s name secures us because every time we say it, we acknowledge his reality and presence.  God is.  God is near.  God is right here.

                When we are afraid, we should run to God.  Like Adam and Eve, we may run from God because we are ashamed of our sin.  Or like Jonah we might run away from God because we are disobedient to his plan for our lives.  But the righteous run to the fortified tower of God’s good name.  Running to God is always the right thing to do.  When we do, we will remember that we are safe with him.
Pray with me this little prayer which brings us to the fortified tower of God’s name (you can pray it any time, all day long):
“Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
This year our Every Day with Jesus readings will follow The Bible Project Read Scripture Plan.  Copies of this reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download
the app at readscripture.org.  Read through the Bible with us in 2019!
Joyfully,
