Things are really heating up in Transylvania County. These almost-August summer days have sent even the most sun-hungry looking for a spot of shade and some chilly water. Fortunately for us, the Land of Waterfalls has a fair amount of both (to say nothing of ice cream and ice cold beer), so we’re keeping pretty cool up here.
 
Brevard and Transylvania are quite the place for those looking to escape the dog days of summer. Of course there’s swimming and hiking and biking and paddling and all things adventure, but there’s also art, fine dining, star-gazing and some truly sublime music. We’ve saved you a lovely spot in the shade, so hurry on over before the ice cream melts.

Those with a hankering to get poetic could do worse than join this guided tour to Black Balsam Knob, one of the finest 360-degree views along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Hear interesting facts about Pisgah National Forest from your naturalist guide while you await the evening sky’s spectacular performance, and then bask in the glorious colors and scenery at this unforgettable event. 

In the summer, it can be pretty hard to stay out of the water when the temperature’s on the rise. But what do you do once you get there? This fun, informative class for underwater explorers age 8-15 instructs on creek ecosystems and all the critters that dwell therein. Snorkels and masks provided. 

This exciting traveling exhibition about space travel and astronomy helps us figure out the amazing things that keeps us stargazing, while exploring the mysteries of the cosmos with would-be astronauts of all ages. 

Enjoy the Friday summer evening with a stroll through Brevard’s charming downtown for this beloved monthly event. Stop and shop, sip on a glass of wine and see some of the varied and imaginative works shown at the many stores and galleries along your route. 

Brevard Music Center’s 82nd season has been a thing of splendor, a superior program of artists and performances guaranteed to dazzle even the toughest critic among music fans. The season continues to its finale weekend performances (and beyond) offering a little something different, from Sondheim to “Planets” and from Bernstein to Béla Fleck. Your summer evenings can ring with the sound of brass, the roar of applause, the knowledge you’ve seen some of the best in the world on one of its loveliest stages.
