How Many Elections Can Israel Handle? Challenges Facing Israel’s Democracy

Jewish Heritage Night with the Washington Wizards

Jewish Identity and the American Public Square Federation and Shalom Hartman Institute
America serves as a robust and evolving marketplace of various identities. How do Jews imagine themselves showing up in American society? Drawing on the Jewish tradition, this session will explore different frameworks for thinking about who Jews want to be in America. Join Yehuda Kurtzer, president of the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America, and Emily Tamkin, author of Bad Jews: A History of American Jewish Politics and Identities and senior U.S. editor of the New Statesman, in conversation with Gil Preuss, Federation CEO, for a critical and timely conversation on the role of Jewish identity in the American public square.

Everything But the Turkey
Edlavitch DCJCC
A signature program since 1996 of Federation partner Edlavitch DCJCC, Everything But the Turkey, in partnership with DC Central Kitchen, brings together hundreds of volunteers to chop, mix, grate, and prepare thousands of servings of festive Thanksgiving dishes for people experiencing food insecurity and homelessness in the DC area. No cooking experience necessary. This year’s program will be held entirely indoors.
