Native Studies Research Colloquium – Deeping Place Relationship: A Request for Feedback: Join Elisabeth McCumber for a discussion of her master’s thesis – a series of essays about a little valley in the Western Oregon Coast Range drawing on the archaeology, oral tradition, pioneer archives, and interviews with Native and Euroamerican participants.

Black Excellence Gala: Join us for a night of laughs and celebration as the Black Student Union as well as African Student Association host our annual Black Excellence Gala on April 9th (Sunday of week one) from 5pm to 8pm. Food and drinks will be provided! You are not required to be a UO-affiliated student or employee to attend.
Thursday, April 13, 4:00pm, 115 Lawrence Hall. Naama Tsabar: “Artist Talk”: Naama Tsabar’s practice fuses elements from sculpture, music, performance, and architecture. An Israeli artist living and working in New York, Tsabar has collaborated with local communities of female-identifying and gender non-conforming performers.
Saturday, April 15, 2:00pm, JSMA. The Ukrainian Art of Petrykyivka: Come join a talk by Marina Malyarenko, a Ukrainian artist specializing in the art of Petrykyivka, a traditional Ukrainian art form originally used to decorate houses and household goods. In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Malyarenko is creating paintings that combine the traditional technique of Petrykyivka with the symbols of the current Ukrainian resistance, such as the kalyna (viburnum) tree and the Ukrainian coat of arms. Malyarenko’s paintings symbolize the qualities of unity, community, and tradition, painted as acts of resistance to the forces that would suppress Ukrainian culture and self-determination

Tuesday, April 18, 5:30pm, Ford Alumni Center. “A Place in the Narrative: Telling Underdocumented Stories”: Natalia Molina will share the strategies that she and other historians have used to tell their stories in her talk. Her research explores the intertwined histories of race, place, gender, culture, and citizenship (also livestreamed; ASL interpreter)
Sunday, April 23, 3:00pm, JSMA. “The Superheroes Among us”: Art and Ukrainian Resistance: Please join us in welcoming Sashko Danylenko, a Ukrainian filmmaker, illustrator, and multimedia artist. He will be presenting his illustrated series “The Superheroes Among Us” which showcases the incredible acts of resistance of ordinary Ukrainians against Russian aggression, including professors who teach from trenches, women who rescue disabled dogs, and much more.

This talk focuses on police community relations programs established during the mid-20th century as a solution to police brutality.
