Faculty Spotlight - Gary Mitchell
Emerald Distinguished Professor and Discipline Leader of the Pamplin School of Business' Operations & Technology Management (OTM) program, Dr. Gary Mitchell earned an M.B.A in Finance from the University of California, Riverside, and his Ph.D. in Operations Management from the University of Washington.
 His teaching experience includes project management, decision modeling, inventory and supply chain management, operations management, and systems analysis and design, and he has twenty years of experience in supply chain management and information systems development. He founded a successful supply chain management solutions company that he sold in 1997 and he previously held national responsibility for inventory management consulting (retail and wholesale companies) at KPMG.
 Dr. Mitchell recently launched the 1st time event "Helping Hands" at UP where he led Team Axis #7187,  the Lake Oswego robotics team he mentors along with his wife Veronica, and OTM students. They gathered on December 2nd to build prosthetic hands for those in need!
 His hobbies include martial arts (he holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and Hap Ki Do), photography and playing the saxophone. He will be a featured speaker at this month's APICS meeting on 1/19 (along with professor Gudigantala).
 We give Professor Mitchell the special spotlight shout-out this month!
CORPORATE & DIVERSITY OUTREACH
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Workshop
Our partners at the The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and Intel Corporation, will host the "Emotional Intelligence for Leaders" workshop that has been rescheduled for January 7th, 8:30am - 4:40pm at the Westside campus located in Bethany Village. The workshop will be presented by Amy Lake, Certified Personal Coach. 

Prosperity & Profitability Planning 
In partnership with the Greater Vancouver Chamber and DIY Marketing Center, the Pamplin School of Business is sponsoring this hands-on marketing planning workshop for home-based and small businesses on January 7th in Franz Hall. The session will help attendees design a prosperous and profitable plan for the coming year and will include exercises, brainstorming, feedback and coaching. 

Latin Tech Fest at Intel
Intel's Latin Network (ILN) will be hosting their 2nd Annual Latin Tech Fest in conjunction with HispanicPros on January 28th at Intel's Jones Farm Conference Center.  Attendees are encouraged to bring resumes and seasoned professionals will have the opportunity to meet with hiring companies. Students will hear from a professional panel regarding current trends in the market. Technology startups founded by diverse leaders will also have the opportunity to pitch their idea or business.

Graduate Internship Openings
As part of the graduate business professional development program, the Pamplin School of Business is pleased to share these openings:
SureID is looking for a Quality professional graduate student interested in further developing SureID’s Quality infrastructure. Intern projects will be well defined and monitored by the Director of Quality Programs. This system will include process, information systems and financial data and will be used to optimize internal operations to reduce costs. Finance, IT Architect and Quality Programs will work together in the development of this system definition.

Tillamook County Creamery Association is seeking an MBA Intern Category Management and Stewardship Program Intern. The first position is perfect for MBA candidates on the consumer marketing track, or corporate strategy students. The Stewardship position is ideal for MBA candidates on the sustainability track, or corporate strategy students. The position will report to the Director of Sustainability and Corporate Stewardship.

Featuring Pamplin's own Professors Gary Mitchell and Naveen Gudigantala, join APICS Portland at this event for insight on What is Business Analytics? How can Business Analytics help with Supply Chain Management? Dr. Naveen Gudigantala and Dr. Gary Mitchell will help you understand the ins and outs of business analytics.
