Art Camp RecapLast week, August 4th – 6th, was three fun-filled days of Art Camp! Each day had a special theme: Art-Rageous 2-D, Super Sculptures 3-D, and Creative Cultural Arts. Throughout the week, youth got the chance to explore new techniques, materials, and art styles.
Day 1: Art-Rageous 2-D
The youth started off the day with some name games and making their very own sketchbooks to draw in throughout the week. Next youth did sun prints and printmaking, followed by acrylic canvas painting, where they created their unique designs. After lunch, youth dove into watercoloring and Perler bead creations. To wrap up the day, campers experimented with oil and chalk pastels, learning new techniques, and ended the day with a snack.
Day 2: Super Sculptures 3-D
The second day was all about creating in three dimensions! After a mini name game to start the day, the youth sculpted with clay. Next, they explored 3-D drawing techniques, paper sculptures, and flextangles. Youth moved into making CD animals, and some included turtles, pigs, cows, and more! After lunch, the youth played a lively game of Kahoot before our guest speaker, 4-H youth leader Hannah, taught campers how to make beautiful pipe cleaner roses and tulips. The youth ended the day with painting suncatchers and trying out soap carving.
Day 3: Creative Cultural Arts
On the final day, campers traveled the world through art! Youth began with Aboriginal dot painting from Australia, using Q-tips and paint to create colorful designs. Next, the youth learned how to create dreamcatchers and Japanese lanterns. After lunch, the youth played a few rounds of Pictionary, followed by creating piñatas from cereal boxes. The youth finished the day with paper mosaics and created mini spin drums inspired by Native American culture.
All three days were a huge success and full of creativity, laughter, and new skills. We can’t wait till next year! Check out more pictures of art camp on our Facebook page!
