Gary Baker drives the train for Dave DeNeal

From the Camp Director

I cannot believe June is over! Camp is moving so fast this year. We started the month of June off with a BANG with Celebrate Good Times. We had around 1,500 attend to kick off camp! We are so thankful for all of the churches that participated and helped us start the camp off. We collected so many boxes of cereal and raised $7,200 for camp scholarships. In the month of June alone, we gave away 48 scholarships. We have been able to expand our network throughout the year with the school groups that come to Hanging Rock for field trips. We have had several kids sign up for camp because of the school field trips we hosted. This is also where a lot of our scholarship requests are coming from this year. If you want to make a BIG difference in the life of a young person and help them connect to Christ for possibly the very first time, I encourage you to partner with us on our Scholarship program. You can donate online or send a check. I cannot wait to see what the Lord is going to do through Hanging Rock in the month of July.

2019-2021 Vision

This year our Board & Camp Committee has been working on vision casting and goal setting for 2019- 2021. There are three areas of the vision we are focusing on:
1.  Equip - Programming & Procedures
2.  Engage - Engagement & Reach
3.  Renew - Facilities & Elements
We have already been working on the first area of EQUIPING. We have worked to streamline our online registration and upgrade the process of Check -In.
The second area of ENGAGE is making sure we communicate better to our supporting churches and individual partners. This email newsletter is part of this process.
The third area of RENEW.  The Board has made the descision to start raising money to remodel the bathrooms. This will be done in 3 phases. We will begin with the House of Adam, then move on to House of Eve and finish with the Hilton. We plan to tile from floor to ceiling and create true ADA compatible facilities in each bathroom. One complaint that we receive from a lot of our guest groups, campers and faculty are the bath facilities and their disrepair.  The estimates that we have received to do all 3 buildings is $125,000. We will be getting formal bid on each building and at that time we will give updates to the costs involved. Be on the lookout for several fundraisers coming in the future to fund these projects. Our plan is to raise enough to begin the House of Adam by the end of 2019. We would then plan for the House of Eve and the Hilton for 2020. Below are some pictures of the bathrooms in each building.

Labor Day Family Camp:

August 30- September 2, 2019

We have a GREAT family camp lined up for you this year. We are excited about having the Clarks with us. George will be our main speaker and he is bringing  some of his family for some sessions as well. George is very familiar with Hanging Rock. He grew up at the First Church of Christ in Catlin, Illinois. Hanging Rock is his home camp. He also came back to work as Summer Staff after his first year at JU. We are also excited to have the Worship team from Fowler Christian lead us in worship. We have great teachers for your children and teens and all of the Hanging Rock fun activities will be available. Of course, MOUSE EARS will be another GREAT HIT! Registration is up and we look forward to having you join us this year.

VBS @ West Liberty Church of Christ

We had a great time at West Liberty Church of Christ as the mission for VBS. They raised over $800 to help us buy new harnesses for our zipline. Our current harnesses have a ten year lifespan and this is year 10.  We were able to buy 20 new harnesses with the help of West Liberty. We still need 20-30 more. If you would like to buy a harness for us you can donate online or send a check. They are $45.00 per harness. THANK YOU WEST LIBERTY!!!!!!!
